We're all clear here in Virginia Beach. Power is now restored, we were only without it for 24 hours. Only minor damage…missing a dozen roof shingles. We dodged a bullet. Hope everyone else gets off as lightly as us.
Now, back to blogging.

Glad to know it was less than expected! It looks worse on TV.

Hunter, I'm glad to hear that you only suffered minor damage. It seems like Irene was much more tame than the forecasters predicted.
A lot of people in New Jersey lost power, and thankfully, we weren't among them (although I have many friends and family members that are). We actually have people coming to our apartment today to take showers and store food.
Our church flooded, and there are cities here which are practically underwater – the residents are trapped for now.

Glad to hear you guys got by with minor scrapes.
We had a brown-out or two but the power stayed on for the most part. Lots of branches and leaves, but otherwise no worse for wear. We hosted some friends who live a town away and found out their neighborhood took on a few feet of surge water (heard a story of one person's car floating away). It certainly could have been lots worse!

After enduring three hurricanes in one year in Florida, I do not wish that experience on anyone. The loss of power, inability to get from point A to point B because of limbs or flooding, it was miserable. No AC for weeks in the summer in Florida is NO picnic. Thumbs up for our generator, which we acquired after the first hurricane.
