I believe there's a PR update due any day now, is that correct?
3 months ago, at the last update, I went from PR-0 to PR-2. Was pleased, but seems quite low still to me.
What's the chance of me getting upgraded to 3, or maybe 4? Is it possible/realistic in that time frame?
I think I read an article recently which said something about it being exponentially more difficult to climb the PR scale.
What are some of Yakezie members' experiences with pagerank? Should I be concerned with it at all?

Pagerank is pretty useless these days. I used to be a PR5 way back in the day. Now I'm a PR3 even though I have a bazillion more links and 5 times more traffic. I guess it matters somewhat if you sell links, but otherwise it's not really an indication of anything. It certainly has no relationship with search rankings.

My two sites have been at PR2 for as long as I've known what PageRank was. I've heard that PR3 is the "average" ranking, but I've seen a lot more PR2 sites than I have PR3. PageRank is a logarithmic scale, so each ranking is 10 times higher and harder to reach.
Don't quote me on this next part, but you may have your work cut out for you having a co.uk site. I heard somewhere that Google devalues those sites and links from them because they have a problem with spam sites from the UK.
In terms of the importance of PageRank, the public number has little to do these days with the private number of how you will actually rank. SEOMoz did a video once that showed that their Page Authority rankings were a better fit to page rankings than PageRank. In reality, it has two, related, functions. One is making you more desirable to advertisers so you can charge higher rates. The other is making you more desirable to other bloggers who may want to write a guest post for you. Beyond that, it's pretty much bragging rights.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

I got a PR3 a few months after I started my blog, then stayed there for 15 months before attaining a PR4. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if I dropped back to a 3 on the next update even though nothing has changed.
Page Rank is fickle and doesn't really matter for anything, as others have said. It's always exciting to move up on the scale, but most blogs never make it past the 2-3 range. I agree that mozRank is a far better measure of the quality of a site, though for now PR is the one people are most familiar with.

Thanks for the grounded perspective guys. It's mad how the goal posts keep changing. I guess the best thing to do then is not worry about it and keep posting quality content – business as usual, rather than altering your behaviour to fit into somebody else's calculated whims. And if I must be concerned with ranking maybe I'll focus more on the mozRank like you suggest. Thanks

Drew, you wouldn't be able to fit in Google's whims even if you tried very hard – it is akin to black arts than anything else and still mystifies me. However, your predicted PR (just for fun) is 3 – don't hold your breath! Mine has been 4-5 for ages and in fact am stuck in Google purgatory.
So, have fun and what will happen will happen.

It looks like my MozRank is way better than my PR, so let's go with that

There is a lot more discussion about Domain Authority (DA) being a more consistent metric to measure the "trust" of a site.

Domain Authority? Pray, tell us how that works or compares to PR or mozRank…
I could just google it I know, but then I'd be back in 'suspect-info-confusion-land'

I've been a predicted 4-5 for at least 2+ years and have always stayed a 3.
Whenever a new rank is released, my first hope is not to go down, then if that holds, my second is to go up.

No one can really explain how mozRank or PR works so comparing DA to either of those, or attempting to understand DA, is likely as futile as trying to understand the other metrics.
I just know that advertisers definitely care about it. Even sites with PR 0 still get advertising leads if their DA is decent (35+).

@Drew – DA is part of mozRank. They assign an overall score (on a scale of 1-10), then domain authority and page authority on a scale of 1-100. As SPF mentioned, it's pretty hard to explain because no one is really sure how it's assigned.

Ah OK, just checked my DA…it's 32 right now, and that does coincide with a flurry of advertising leads recently.
Thanks a lot guys

Just checked my domain authority: a 34! Just a tinge away from that coveted 35, d'oh. I jumped from PR 0 to PR 2 relatively quickly a few months ago, and have been stuck there ever since. I won't pretend to understand how any of this works so I will just continue to do my thing, I suppose. Maybe the G gods will give me a gold star eventually for effort. :o)
