Idea – Consolidated Yakezie Member List Page

Hi.

I was just doing some housekeeping and was making sure that I was listed on different people's Yakezie blog lists and I had a thought.

What if we standardize the format of the Yakezie blogroll list, similar to the members page but with the challengers listed too, but have it maintained at one location vs a bunch of people having different lists in different stages of completeness. I'm envisioning some code that would link back to Yakezie.com website and populate a Yakezie page on everyone's blogs.  That way if a challenger gets promoted to member, It automatically updates.  If someone new joins, it updates.  Also if someone hasn't updated their blog in 6 months, they get dropped off the list.

Having said all this, I have no skills whatsoever to write this kind of code but I'd be willing to pitch in some money to Yakezie.com to help get it done if people think it's a good idea.

Questions:

1. Do you think it's a good idea?

2. Would you put a Yakezie page on your site if you don't already have one?

3. Does anyone know how much it would cost to do something like this?

4. Would you fork over a little money to help build this?

5.  Are there any negative metrics that would result from this type of arrangement?

Sandy,

It is a good idea to have a members list too. But here are the problems I see

1) We have no way of knowing whether a challenger is actively posting (we might be able to check the last date the feed was updated, but if they had a glitch in their feed we don't want to randomly drop them, so a manual check is necessary in any case).

2) If it is my blog I have been checking out the blogs individually and if I think they are not a spam (or non-spam corporate) blog I have been adding. But if it comes to Yakezie, all of us would have to agree? We might have different opinion on what is a spam blog and what is not.

3) If we are going to be linking to a blog from Yakezie, there will be influx of spam blogs. We have to be "really" cautious of who we link to.

4) Outsiders like advertisers might not know the difference between challengers and members. So there is a possibility that some members (not all, some) might point to it and say "I am in the Yakezie list" and confuse the advertisers.

Those are just my ramblings. This is a good idea and if we can shape it up, it is possible to do this.

Yeah, I agree that it would be tempting for spaminators to want to jump on the bandwagon and get a bunch of instant links.  If we could figure out some minimum criteria to get folks added..maybe a "top challenger" section, that would be good.  I always had a hard time keeping up to date on who the active up and comers are, so I defaulted to just visiting the yakezie members because they are all already on a consolidated list and easy to access.

There is a challenger spreadsheet (anyone can enter their name, so use it with caution).

I think that would be a great idea.

I like the idea of a "minimum requirement" to even be considered a potential challenger, because, as a potential challenger myself, I'm not quite sure when I'm close enough to really put my hand up and say "Hey! I'm going to be ready to be a member in a month/2 months/whatever"

Yes, the challenger and member list was created for just this reason, but it is self-listed so there may be spam. I have been going through and deleting spam blogs, and e-mailing those that don't appear to be active or participating anymore, but it's a bigger job than I can keep up by myself. Something coded would be nice.

I agree with all of the suggestions people have given. I do think this is a great idea but it has to be done right. Could we not add something to the Yakezie home page?
