What are your best ideas for coming up with blog content?
Mine are:
Opinion articles based on current events
Responses to guest articles
Responses to articles written by other personal finance blogs
writing about real life financial mishaps and success
Writing a finance related article from movie scenes (think boiler room, wallstreet, company men)
Taking a non finance related quote and seeing the financial wisdom in the quote (motivational article about failure)
Text books! (We all have read a finance topic that was explained poorly)
That's all I can think of for now. Where do you get your ideas from?

I wish I could give you a new method of coming up with fresh content, but I dont have anything. I typically write about life experiences, which in a way is a theme for my blog…which is why you don't typically see articles on my site about investing in commodities, or bankruptcy, etc…of course I do allow the occasional guest poster to use those topics.

Try Google updates on finances. They will send you an email a day with all the latest popular stories for finance related material. It's worked great for me when I run out of things to write about!

I typically get inspiration from non-financial sources. I like to tie in my financial lesson posts to life experiences or I get ideas from watching movies or reading books that aren't necessarily financially based.
When I run out of ideas it helps me to read other blogs (financial/non-financial) to see if anything irritates me or gets me fired up to write or get ideas for ways to apply these topics to my particular audience in a new way.
I really should start reading the finance articles on Google but since I'm attempting to write for an audience of 20-somethings like myself, a lot of my writing is foundational without getting too complicated.

I keep notes on my BB. I have like 20 article titles ready to go. When I'm dry I just check out my favorite blogs. I might write a rebuttal or something on a similar topic.

I will read other blog articles and sometimes come up with an idea, sometimes not even on the topic of what I'm reading but maybe just off a sentence or something like that.
I'll have an everyday experience or observation that can provoke a post.
I will hear something on the news or read something that inspires me.
I will use something that comes up in conversation with family or friends that makes a light bulb go off.
The trick for me is keeping track of my ideas because I might have an idea at a time where I can't write about it, but if I don't write down 'the idea' I'll forget all about it. Having a smartphone helps :)

Ask and you shall receive–ask on your blog, that is.
I posted a short "throw me some ideas" post on my blog and got a lot of feedback about what people are interested in. It helped a lot.

Definitely agree with the surf around until you get fired up posts. A lot of times, I'll write a 'rebuttal' to something I read, even if I don't call out the original source.
Sometimes I do call the source out though, heh.

I have found that blogging about personal finance is really easy. I use many of the techniques listed above by others. What I have found is that all I have to do is write about what is going on currently in my life. Just about everything ties to personal finance. Include a personal story, explain how it affects your finances, then insert advice, opinions, comments or even ask a question.
Most recently, my wife had to bring my son to the ER in the middle of the night. The next morning I started to write about that, which led to my theory and opinion about how it affects my personal finances.

I liked this idea and posted today. Let's see if there is is really any engaged reader outside Yakezie and a few who comment.

1. What is going on in my life
2. What is going on in the economy (news)
3. Reader comments
4. Scouring the web (I like Quora for inspiration)

I write mainly from my life experiences, but also on topics I currently am researching due to my own interest. I try to think of what I want my grown kids to know or understand and write a story about that.

I like the methods above but I also like to expand on popular posts and turn them into a mini-series looking at the same topic rom different angles.
