But no debt besides a student loan that will be paid off before it starts accruing interest.
Ha! I take it back – we're pretty close, and your rent's a tiny bit higher than mine. I was feeling worried that I was surrounded by six figure income people. :)

Yes.
Very few people are actually non-consumer. It's almost impossible.
Take a look at James Wesley, Rowles. He has arguably the most self-sufficient readership of any blog anywhere. It's a core tenet of his niche. He makes good money on ads and sponsorships. If you're a resource, your readers won't mind you earning money for your time.
Sorry. I wasn't being very specific with my language and you're right, they're not "non-consumer". But they're pretty low on the scale. I'm definitely always looking for advertisers that are a good fit. Most definitely, none of my regular readers would complain if I earned money from the blog! LOL

@Canadian Doomer – you may want to research using Blogger and advertising rules. I may be way off but I thought I read once people get a bit handcuffed re: advertising by using that platform. A reason so many use WordPress …

As far as I can tell, there's no problem with advertising on a Blogger blog. I think the only real problem is using Adsense and people have complained that they're very restrictive with accounts. I have no first-hand knowledge of that, though.
I have joined Google Affiliates, and the rules are less strict, but I haven't added any yet. I know … get off my butt and do it, right? :)
I like the Blogger platform – odd, I know – but I'll eventually get my own domain. Maybe when I hit 200K? :D

You can use your own domain on blogger, even if you keep using that platform. Do it early, it helps with branding.

I think it is against the blogger policy to sell text links, so if you are not going to sell text links they don't care about advertising. In wordpress, you are not violating any policy that you agreed to if you sell text link, the only risk is google might choose to ignore you in search results. That would be the major difference between wrt advertising in blogger vs wordpress.
That said, I prefer wordpress too. Much better control and the sooner you move, the less hassle the transfer will be.

It IS against blogger policy to sell TLA's. You'll be gone like yesterday's garbage. Hope off before you get large and go your own thing.
@$160K in student loans is hard to beat without an Ivy League. You win dude. I only had about $65K…although my MD friend that isn't a practicing doctor because it was too expensive has us all beat at $350K. I say a prayer for his credit cards every night.

Well, I don't have text link ads and I'm not inclined to put any on my site, so I think I'm safe for the moment. :)

I have to say that this might be the most honest thread I've ever read on a forum (everyone included!) :). Don't worry doomer, we don't make 6 figures. We hope to though. Oh, I would buy a domain. It will be terrible trying to trackdown all of the sites linking to your blogspot URL and trying to get them to change it.
Our blog started on blogger, but we moved to wordpress after about a month. I've had at least 20 different blogs on blogger and they never go anywhere. I don't have any evidence whatsoever barring my experience, but I'm convinced that google hates blogger blogs. I see very few pop up in competitve keywords other than Dividend Growth Investor.
Then again, I can't say that I check every blog to verify their platform. His is the only one I've seen rank that LOOKS like a blogger blog.

I will be getting a domain. My husband and I had a long chat about it this morning. However, for the moment, I'll be staying with Blogger. :) Btw, I really only have "honest" mode … well, unless "foot in mouth" is a separate mode.

By honest, I meant - more transparent. :). I'm glad to hear that you'll be getting the domain, it will give a much more professional image. It's OK if you stick with blogger, because converting to wordpress is extremely easy to do now. It used to be horrible, but now there is a ton of support for it. If you like the platform and it works for you, that is perfect! The best to you and your blog!

You can definitely earn money with your readers–so long as advertisers want you. You can email me if you'd like for more information, but advertisers are more interested in your pagerank than in your readers (a lot of the times, or at least for the type of advertisers you will get in the beginning).

Is that possible? I mean … without alienating all of my non-consumer, self-sufficient, uber-frugal readers? While BF is competing for highest debt load, I'd be willing to bet that we have the lowest monthly income of anyone here, and I need to change that. No debt, though.

Yep, if you've got PR, you'll find advertisers. It's very sterile sounding, but it's the truth.

Man oh man I hope we get a PR on their next public update. I think we will, but that could a year from now.
Our mozRank goes between 4.6 and 5.3 which is a good indicator (IMO) as to where our PR will rank once we get one. We rank really well on our keywords.

As far as I know, I don't even have a PageRank, so I'll just focus on improving my blog and writing posts. :) From what I can tell PageRank is mostly about who is linking IN to you?

Hi Mate, keep on doing what you're doing and writing them posts and getting to know others. Sooner or later, the PR will come. And, if you want to write about mozRank, to raise awareness, we did that before and it certainly helped. Best, Sam

@FreelancePF – Thanks for your thoughts and clearing the airways. It's helped me and hopefully everyone else following this drama, understand where you are coming from.
Perhaps you can use all this as good ammunition to write plenty of posts eg "Do We Buy A House If We Are Already In Debt", "We Can't Get Along With Everyone All The Time," etc. If you don't, I probably will!
Partly because of this situation, and partly because there will be more situations like this, I wrote the post: Navy SEALs: Surviving Through Difficult Situations on Yakezie.com. Way back when we first started, we had a couple bloggers raise a ruckus b/c they were very focused on just making money. Some ugly words were exchanged and ultimately both quit. One sold his site a month later, and the other has completely faded away a couple months after quitting. The one who faded away had just bought a $60,000 Infinity SUV while just months before declaring his family's net worth was only $50,000. He needed money too, but was unsuccessful in his sale, and was already ostracized. It may very well have been the car which "drove" him over the edge!
We should respect everyone's opinions. When it comes to the Yakezie Community, I'd like for us to think whether what we are doing benefits the community or not. It's part of our DNA, to help each other out first and foremost. And if we can't, or if it doesn't, then at least we shouldn't try and make things worse. There's too much good to do in this world to bother with the bad. If we're not having fun, we're not doing it right.
Thanks,
Sam

Canadian Doomer,
That is definitely possible. You can always try sites like Flexoffers too. Your site looks like it would work well with books, and services that benefit the frugal. You already have a book review section so you can become an Amazon affiliate for books that you like.

Excellent insights Sam. Also, why buy a $60,000 car with a $50,000 net worth?
