i just launched 2 apps and 2 more in the works. the more i brainstorm new ideas the more it feels that the personal finance space is a natural match. i.e. debt reduction (based on simple formula/principles). the challenge of course is that this space is saturated with bigger players like MSN, Mint etc.
is this something you are considering? why/why not?
if you are interested in reading about my experimentation with apps the link is below.

I haven't considered an app specifically for my blog, but I've had an iPhone app called Pay Off Debt for years that helps people manage their debt snowball. I'm just about ready to submit an update for it too :)

awesome Jackie. the niche just lends itself to apps IMO. if you don't mind sharing, how is the app performing in terms of sales? how has it trended each year since inception? what type of marketing are you doing? if you have written about this in depth I'd love to read it if you can provide a link

Overall it's trending down in terms of sales, but that's because it's been around since 2009 and went from being one of two debt snowball apps to one of…an awful lot. It's still doing pretty good though each month :)
I haven't written about the process in debt, but I did write about it a little here and here.
Nor have I really done much marketing, although that will change with this upcoming release. Feel free to email me if you have questions.

It's fascinating to hear about all the creative endeavors in this space. Do you create the apps yourself or contract the work out? Although, with such a crowded space, I would think you would need some sort of competitive advantage.

I have a green smoothie website along with my pf blog and I'm currently looking for outsourced to build an app. It's just collection of green smoothie recipe and I have no idea how this is going to do. Just excited to start this new journey. How much should I look into spending in creating an app? I bought some books on building apps from amazon but little overwhelmed with all the info for the moment. Would love to check out your pf app Sunil.

I think you will find my post helpful. for something as simple as a compilation you can probably get it done for around $400. Barb – participating in a crowded niche usually results in some of the market share coming to you. if there is competition there is money to be made
