I hope to get a logo this winter and thought I should have it trademarked. It seems like a lot of effort and potentially extra cost if I have someone else do the trademark search.
If you have a logo, is it trademarked?
If so, do you have any advice for me on searching to make sure no one is using the trademark and for getting a logo trademarked/

I just recently received my LLC paperwork back from Legalzoom…and they offer an additional service to trademark my logo… not overly expensive, and perhaps something I will look into in the future…Im really more concerned about copying my content than I am my logo…Im not nearly big enough that the MITR brand is going to do much for anyone lol.

My logo isnt trademarked. The main reason for this is because the old one I made myself and didnt really think it was worth stealing – It wasnt wall that great. My new one however, I may consider in the future if I incorporate.

I've never done personally but if you really love your logo and brand it could well be worth it.

The legal aspects to operating a blog don't get enough attention. Thanks for bringing this up.
I don't actually have a logo, but my banner is not trademark protected. I would start with this resource:
http://www.uspto.gov/
I'm looking forward to learning more about blog legalities at FINCON from Mark Patterson, blogger at Mr Tough Money Love. He's a lawyer!

I think it's definitely worth it. In NJ, it's only $50 to register a servicemark or trademark.

I've thought of this as well. Also, it might be interesting to learn about trademarking certain sayings or phrases associated with your blog. For example, the Yakezie tagline "Selflessly Helping Others" is unique to the site.
My blog isn't at that point yet where I need to focus on logo and tagline trademarking, but I'm also interested in learning more about these types of issues at FINCON11.

If you're serious about blogging as a business, you should definitely do so. But if not, then why bother going through the paperwork, and just enjoy the blogging experience?

Thanks for thread. I never thought of this. I do put a copyright disclaimer on my blog but I haven't officially trademarked anything. Should I? Is this a fee I should pay? Not sure.

Actually, I'm not sure about that. Since I'm registered in NJ, that's all I cared about at the time, but I really need to check on that.
