So I got an iffy e-mail from some guy named Jason Holmes, saying he wanted to improve his identity as a professional blogger. It seemed like an extremely generic e-mail (especially since he called me Admin). I thanked him for reaching out and informed him I wasn't looking for writers for my site. He sent me a guest post that I didn't ask for and said if I liked it to publish it on my blog. It was really suspicious so I ignored it. He e-mailed me back asking me to publish it. I didn't mean to ignore this one but I didn't get a notification he had e-mailed me. He e-mailed me again saying "please publish my article it's urgent :(" At this time I told him that if he wanted his post published I'd have to charge a fee when he finally said he wasn't open to paid options.
I decided to do my research and it looks like he lurks on personal finance sites and leaves the same generic message in comments asking for the opportunity to post on their sites. Very suspicious. Anyone else hear from him?

Not from him specifically, but I have received a number of those types of emails. When I search the email address, I find the text of the email left as comments on various PF blogs – just like you did this time.

Tell this guy that no one cares about his spammy ways. "please publish my article it's urgent" I'm pretty sure it's up to the webmaster to decide which posts to publish and which not to.

Thanks for the heads up…I don't mind these guys as much as others, but I get how the urgent thing would get annoying

Oh yeah, he wrote me this email:
Hi,
I am Jason, member of www.debtconsolidationcare.com and I maintain the official blog there.
I have visited your blog and I am really impressed. I would like to ask some professional and personal questions to publish atwww.debtconsolidationcare.com/blog/ as an interview so that it helps our community member learn somethings from you.
Our site gets around 400K visitors a month and it also has a very active community of more than 150K members. I am sure that this interview will also give you and your blog a good exposure in our community.
Please reply if you are interested in having a interview of yours published.
Regards,
Jason Holmes, Community Member
I gratefully accepted and he never wrote me back again.

I've gotten a few like that (although not that specific one). I just reply with my standard line about a sponsorship fee. Never hear back from any of them.

If not him, then a dozen just like him. It's pretty common to see stuff like this and I'm finding more and more of it. I guess I put up with it happily because it means my blog is growing, but I tend to just file them in the appropriate folder. Every now and then, I'll shoot back with a 'Here's my rates' but 99% of those never get responded to.
After awhile, I've been able to sniff out the inquiries where they might actually be willing to pay versus those that have no intention of ever paying for their links.

Thanks for the heads up. I haven't heard from this one yet but I will keep my eyes open. I too just respond with my standard sponsored post fee. Some respond, some don't.

I think I heard from him in the past. I reply with my standard template for sponsored posts for anything like that. If they are interested great. If not, I move on.
