Man, I'm having withdrawal from Jetpack stats. Jetpack was slowing my site down so I uninstalled it last week.
The site is faster, but I miss the stats on my dashboard. 
Sure, I can check GA, but it's just not the same.
BTW, do you know how to track clicks on GA? I want to see where my readers are clicking.

How bad was it the performance? Do you also use a cache plugin? Is it possible you are borderline in need of different level of server performance? (You are a PR5 after all)
I just recently found JetPack and LOVE the stats :) It's a bit of a pain to dig for the clicks and referral pages on Google Analytics compared with JetPack. The calendar view is also quite nice.

Joe, are you using a CDN? You might think about getting one – I ran your site through Pingdom Page Speed and I think it would help speed up your site a lot. Email me if you have questions.

I ran P3 Plugin Profiler and it told me…
- Jetpack took 28% of all plugin time. Got rid of this.
- Ultimate SEO took 26% – need to figure out how to get rid of this.
- Collapsing archive 17%. Got rid of this.
I just have too many plugins and getting rid of the worse ones really helped.

I am using Amazon Cloudfront. Not sure what else I can do with CDN. I'll email you for some advice. :)

I also just upgraded to basic VPS. It seems to be ok so far. At least I'm not getting shut down for too much traffic anymore.

I got rid of about a half dozen plugins when I added Jetpack, so I thought it was worth it. In the long run, it came out in the wash and probably did improve some.
