Do you keep track of where you spend your money? If so, why not share it with your readers. Join the Dollar Challenge, an effort to share with your readers what percentage of your spending goes where.
The basic idea is to connect everyone who is willing to share where they spend their money. Everyone who participates, writes a 'dollar challenge' post between now and the deadline, sharing where their money goes. To respect individuals' privacy, it is only in percentage or how much of every dollar (that way your readers won't know how much you make – if you don't want them to). Thus, the reason for the name: dollar challenge.
Full details and suggestions are on the invitation post, but I invite you to write about where you spend your dollar. The goal is to be able to share with our readers and connect everyone. I will write a summary post on Dec. 3, making some comments about where everyone spends there money. Nothing judgmental, just trying to find similarities, differences, etc.
As far as I see it, there are at least a lot of reasons why should you participate:
- it's an easy post idea (if you are running out of ideas)
- you will receive a link back from me
- Others will be interested to know where everyone else spends their money and you will get more traffic.
- You might just want to encourage responsible spending to your readers…
- You might want to find out where you are spending too much money or even not enough.
Thanks!

Funny, this idea is kind of related to the article I just posted. Article is called What Budgeting Can Do For You. I have thought about writing an article using percentages as to what I do with my money. Interesting idea Corey :)

It does seem similar. Thanks to the people who have already committed to joining the challenge. The value of this challenge increases significantly as more people participate as there are more numbers to compare.

Great! Thanks for joining the challenge! I'm already looking into all the cool graphs/charts that I can use to analyze all of the data.

Thanks for the clarification – I wish I initially included this… Let's go with after tax to make it simpler. Thanks for taking the challenge.

I just wanted to let everyone know that 4 people have already participated in the Dollar challenge, and as far as I know, 4 more people have committed. If anyone else is interested in seeing how their spending compares to other pf bloggers, feel free to join. This is going to be quite fun!

Think I should give it a go? I'm going to throw everything off if I include everything back to June – I bought a house and got married since then, haha. I worry I may poison the well if someone says 'oh, I should spend this much money on 'Home Improvement' (it's a fixer. Well, it was, anyway.).
Thoughts? Maybe, "don't do this if you're in debt"? Maybe average a few months before June? I'm all ears becausI like the idea.

I am joining the challenge as I thought this would be a very quick and simple post. It is turning out to be more time consuming than I thought. I don't even have time to finish it this morning before I leave for work. I should be able to finish tomorrow morning and will post my results then.
I have enjoyed the few I have read so far and am looking forward to reading more.

Feel free to join. Just pick a month. It doesn't have to be a perfect average. Someone has already averaged out for a 5 month. No need to worry about ruining the figures. Almost everyone who has entered has said that. I am not expecting anything in particular, so please join. The more the merrier.

Just wanted to update you all! There has been a huge interest so far in participating in the challenge. Thanks all who have already published their post.
It's still not too late to sign up if you are interested. The last day to post your challenge is 11/26.
It's going to produce some nice data to compare our spending!
