I see that we are already having conversations about traffic, outsourcing and more.  So I would like to add 'Link Building' to the mix as well.

So how do you guys work on building links to your websites ?

Here is what I do:

1. Guest Posts

2. Social Media

3. Carnivals

4. Nothing else! Frown

So what else is there? We all would love to hear about different strategies that work well for others. Lets talk about paid advertising and link building as well.

Guest posting is truly the best.

1) you get interested readers read your guest post, which in your author box you can promote your blog.

2) you get great backlinks.

You kill 2 birds in one stone.

You pretty much named the big hitters…guest posts/social media/and carnivals are the way to go!  It we want to get more specific, you should participate in the blog swaps, those are another great way to get backlinks, not to mention a quality post from another blog as well.

There are so many other great ways to get backlinks!

-Syndication to web 2.0 properties

-Article directory submission

-Linking out to high PR websites for pingbacks

-Forum profiles

-Social bookmarking

-Press releases

-Blog commenting

-Link baiting

(There are great traffic streams)

Where-as there are traffic rivers:

-Guest posting

-Carnivals

-Social media

Hope that helps!  I'm always exploring new backlink methods, it's kind of addicting haha.

Weekly roundups.

On my part, I'm the one giving away the links but people do reciprocate and link to me as well (more goodwill than anything else).

I also try to link out to other relevant sites in my articles when I can.  Again, it's more goodwill but sometimes a mention gets returned.  A good article is worth linking out to.

Hi Jon,

These are some great suggestions. Few questions.

How do you take advantage of Press Releases if you have a Finance blog?

Have you hired someone to help you with these link building tactics? I feel these tasks might take up a lot of time.

Guest posting is pretty huge. Keep that up and you'll do just fine. Pat Flynn also offers some advice on adding links to your site without anyone else's help. I plan to implement this method for my niche site, but I'm a little nervous to try it with my main site…. I don't really want to get banned from anything….

I do a weekly roundup every monday for the top 5 articles (IMO of course) of the previous week.  I try to keep it unbiased as possible, but I have seen some other blogs return the favor for me.

Hi Tushar, yes I outsource a bulk of my blogging tasks.  Hit up Odesk or college students.  It's amazing what you can get done for such little cash :)
