Have problems with spam, but don't want to exclude honest readers? As we all know, Akismet is very finnicky and throws many people into the spam that don't deserve to be there.

Instead of banning these people from commenting on your site, why not offer them a way out with Conditional Captcha? With Conditional Captcha, a captcha will be displayed only for those people flagged as spam by Akismet (or Typepad Antispam), and you can then choose to place the comment in the pending queue, leave it in the spam, or automatically approve it.

The author is committed to improving this plugin, and he has always responded quickly whenever I have come to him with feedback. I highly recommend this plugin, not only to make life easier on your readers, but to make life easier on yourself! Don't stress about filtering through hundreds of spam comments: let Conditional Captcha do the job. Just search for "Conditional Captcha" on the WordPress plugins page in your Dashboard, install it, and you're good to go. Smile

Update:

With the most recent update to the plugin, you can now choose to send passed captchas to the Pending folder. This is a good compromise between always approving and leaving it in the spam.

The Conditional Captcha / Akismet combo is working wonders for me!  I highly suggest it as well!!!

Another recommendation here! Akismet doesn't seem to care about blacklisting bloggers, so we can't rely on them to help us maintain our sites! Conditional captcha really helps me to manage my comments, and it helps me stay out of the spam filters on other sites!

I love conditional captcha so much.  It has made my blog maintenance so much easier.  A few comments still get through, but it is so obvious they are spam that you can just clear them all out.

Conditional Captcha along with Akismet is a great recommendation.

In addition to making your readers lives easier, you'll be saving yourself a ton of time and trouble.  Since I started using conditional captcha the number of false postives has dropped to a trickle.  Legit comments are getting through and the spammers are getting left out in the cold.  It's one of the most valuable plugins I use.

Definitely, that's a great point. It's a win-win situation because your readers will be happier, and you'll be happier, too. :)
