Well, I got the dreaded email from Google notifying me that my Adsense account has been permanently disabled… And here's the thing, I have no idea why this happened. I didn't do anything shady, just happened to have some articles that went viral.
Have any of you had this happen to your blogs? Seems like this happens to a lot of people out there. Once you get close to the $100 mark, Google goes ahead and shuts down your account, so frustrating!
I'd love advice and/or encouragement going Adsense free from now on. All the big blogs have it, I just don't get why mine was disabled. Do you guys even think Adsense is a good source of revenue anyways? Thoughts would be appreciated.

That's too bad Jon! Sorry to hear this happened to you. So the email didn't say why your account had been suspended?! Seems like they would at least need to give you a reason.

Hmm…
You have a privacy policy, so it isn't that.
Did you:
1. Have numerous clicks from people in the same area (nearly identical IP) as you?
2. Purchase pop-under, or pop-up traffic?
3. Purchase Get paid to, autosurf, or other low quality traffic?
4. Have a lot of adblocks per page? Were they blended too well with your content?
Social media traffic is usually considered low-quality, and can be a reason for getting banned. It is believed that upon reaching the first payout, a Google employee manually checks bot-flagged accounts. After that, the quality team uses algorithms before further investigating.

I am really sorry, Job. Mine was disabled this week too. But they did give me a reason – they thought my posts were auto generated! I put a lot of time & effort into every single post of mine. They are far from auto generated. And it was $100 for you? It was a little more than $2000 for me and it was not my first payout… I was mad, depressed… add any sad emotion… But we have to move on. I have been doing some extensive research (as you can imagine) on moving on beyond the adsense free world. I have a few ideas, some implemented, some still ideas… I will email you, we can chat.

Thanks for the insight guys. Yes, Google said that I had invalid clicks which is absolutely ridiculous! I did have tons of social media traffic, especially family and friends reading my posts from FB. So maybe that was it. Also, I setup my ads the same format as all the big time bloggers, so my ad format shouldn't have been the issue.
Yes, Suba I'd love to chat. There are much better ways to make money, Adsense was just one of my income streams. In reality, it might be a good thing to not have ads up for a while who knows.

Oh one thought Jon. I remember you mentioned that you had other people submit your posts to social bookmarking sites. I wonder if those were generating clicks and caught a red flag from google..

This seems to be happening to more people than I would have expected. I'm really sorry to hear about this… It does seem to happen more often for those reaching the first payout. Even a good friend of mine had his account banned, but in his case the reason was that his friends were trying to "help" him.
Since you guys are in the U.S., couldn't you spin off a LLC and try to start fresh? I've heard this is a much less expensive route than forming a corp which is the only possibility in Canada.

"especially family and friends reading my posts from FB"
I think that's a likely reason. Same thing happened to a buddy of mine. Your friends and family could have been trying to help you…or maybe they clicked a bunch of ads without even realizing what they were. Sorry to hear your account is suspended though.

Sorry to hear! I always worry when I get a large spike of search traffic, especially from certain keywords as my CTR can easily go into double digits. I wonder if I'm on the Google watch list somewhere as a suspect account. :) Have you tried Chitika?

I tried Chitika for a short time and didn't earn very much from it, but I may have given up too soon. It could be a good substitute for Adsense though!
Question – when your Adsense account is disabled, do they allow you to ever sign up again? Or, are you banned for life, even if you sign up with a different email address?

I don't see them bothering to track that, but it's possible. Invest it Wisely suggested setting up an LLC which would set up a business AdSense account (separate from personal)–that might work to free you from the ban.

Google hates Facebook, and if you link your site with Facebook, you are running a fine line in Google's eyes. I was banned as well, and put together a list of alternative resources out there. Check it out if you are interested:

That stinks for both you and Suba! When they banned me, they never gave me an explanation!
It may work for you to use another account, but if the problem (or what they call a problem) still persists, they'll just banned your new account as well.

I'm just going Adsense free from now on. I'm tired of their games and getting punished for legitimate hits to my articles.
I'm going to focus on writing my e-book going forward. To be honest, Adsense made me pennies!
I might try Chitika, but their ad blocks are so ugly!
College Investor, I thought CJ was only affiliates, they actually have PPC ads? If so, this might be a good route to go considering their large inventory of companies.

It is still in Beta, but they are getting them. I have found affiliates can work well, if you do the leg work of targeting the right articles – for example, having a credit card affiliate ad in an article about credit cards.

Chitika was horrible for me! The ads didn't match the content at all, and they just seemed so ugly and out of place!

Chitika was also horrible for me. AdBrite is okay as long as you disable adult ads.

Adsense was my major earner, so it really hurt my bottom line.
I have been pumping up affiliate ads, CPM and (very little) CPC ads. I don't know how well they work as they are all new to my site. I have been planning to use them all along with adsense, so I kept feeling bad that these would have been additional revenue :) but I can't do anything, can I… Just have to think how well I can use these other type of ads and make it worthwhile. I don't think I will use chitika, I don't like the way it looks. Does anyone know if bing ads are out of beta yet? I just can't find any information on that.

The first payout only means that it's when they run their checks on your account for the first time. They don't bother doing it until they really have to pay you.
Invalid clicks is practically impossible to get out of … You need to really follow who clicks on your adds and report them. There is a certain threshold that Google believes are valid clicks based on all the data they have. I have a feeling that friends and family trying to help you out actually did the opposite … That's unfortunate.
As Kevin points out, I believe you next chance is with a business entity as they believe you mean business due to the cost of starting it.

Note that Google will checks for names, addresses, bank account numbers against banned accounts. Anything matching a banned account is flagged I believe so anything under the same household may be impossible to use.
