After a Twitter discussion with Sam I was motivated to write a post over 1000 words.
This may be my first whale post! We'll see.
Will you take a look and tell me what you think?

Nice post. I might be biased as a 20something male, but putting a pretty girl at the top of the post certainly got my attention too.

It has all the makings of a "whale post." From what I read, I saw a lot of good tips. Unfortunately I passed out about 750 words into from exhaustion. I'll have to read the rest later :)

Gave a tuna comment to your whale post. Good work! Now by funancial's response I am now re thinking about my posts length. I seldom write anything lesser than 800 words, the latest being 1300 words bible on taxes…hmm.

I typically try to keep my posts short and sweet with a pic and bold words, bullet points, the whole deal.
This post really just required several paragraphs. I think in general, shorter is better. But there are those who prefer the longer posts.

Great post LaTisha. I tend to agree that 500-700 is optimal (IMO), but with an occasional 1000 word post probably helps with traffic/comments/etc.
I recently submitted a guest post to a big blogger with 1k words and he loved it. He will be posting it soon. If you do write a long post, break it up like LaTisha did with a photo and subtitles, etc. It makes it much easier to read quickly for those in a hurry (like me).

Left a comment. Nice list of tips.
All my posts are 1000 or more words. I really really hard to make it shorter but I don't have that skill, so I made peace with it. I try to make it more readable but don't know if I am doing a good job with that or not…
