I'd never even heard of a whale post until these boards but I'm pretty sure this qualifies at 2400 words. It's my first post for Money Crashers. Check it out, give me your opinions. I don't think I've ever sunk this much time or language into a blog post before.

Wow, Impressive Andi, I don't think I have the ability to write 2400 words.  Congrats on your post

Heck of a post Andi!  Now I see why you haven't had any updated content on Meal Plan Rescue for a while.

I don't want to burst your bubble, but I'm not sure this yet qualifies for "whale post" status, at least not in the sense that Sam meant when he came up with that term.  You may be misunderstanding the definition.  I believe a "whale post" is one that gets a TON of hits usually accompanied by a TON of comments.  It's not necessarily any post that just has a ton of words.  Not saying that your post won't become a whale post, just wanted to clarify the definition for you.

Here is an example of a whale post that I read last week at the Get Rich Slowly blog.  http://www.getrichslowly.org/b…..ch-slowly/  At last check, 317 comments!

Anybody correct me if I'm wrong please.

Looks like I'm halfway there. Apparently a whale post is 1000+words and 100+ comments. I guess I'm being optimistic. :)

Well, I just helped you on your path to whale-dom.

I didn't know about a whale post. My most recent one has the length definition, at 1400 words, with a 700 word part two coming tomorrow. My $3k Challenge post had the most activity with ~30 comments that weren't mind and almost 2000 pageviews.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

That is definitely a whale of a post.  I think it would take me a couple weeks worth of posts to match the word count.

I'll stop by to have a look later as well. As to words – I am trying to do the opposite. Usually I am known to be rather wordy.

I guess it all depends on finding your zone. For the past two years, I struggled writing posts that were over the 300 word minimum that Yoast recommends. Then I started writing about personal finance, and those posts have been over 600 words each!

Thank you for your support. I don't know if I'll be writing like that again. It's not in my character to write posts quite that long, but I think it was good experience.
