Hey Everyone,

I am issuing a challenge starting today based on our Alexa ranking. It continues throughout the entire month of July.

Here's the challenge:

DON'T LOOK AT YOUR ALEXA RANKING!

This is based on the fact that many people (myself included) obsess over this ranking like it is the end-all affirmation of your blogging success. It's not. And though it's nice to be able to guage progress, it can become too formulaic and your blog can suffer as a result.

So, instead of looking at your ranking, let's try something a little different.

Set youself a few goals and work on achieving those by the end of July. Here are mine:

• Comment on at least 5 blogs a day.
• Tweet at least 5 blogs a day.
• Get 15 new RSS subscribers
• Keep writing 2.5 articles a week
• Launch "Budget Fridays" first post.

So, if you'd like to join me, feel free to list your goals here. The idea is that you can stop worrying about your ranking, and start worrying about reaching new readers and achieving goals for your blog.

Also, it would be fun to look at your ranking today, make a note of it, and then see where you end up on August 1st. THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION, but can be fun to see if you looking at your ranking actually helps, or if NOT looking helps more.

Awesome–I've been worrying way too much about the final 14,000 I need to go below 200k.  I'll join!

My goals: comment on at least 5 other blogs a day, tweet at least 5 a day and get some posts lined up so I'm not always rushing around.  Maybe even guets post for others.

For the two of you who joined me, how's it going?

I have not been able to tweet/comments as much as I'd like.

I did launch my first "Budget Fridays" post.

I have gotten 3 new RSS subscribers (I need to release a budgeting basics ebook attached to subscription, I know)

And finally, I have not looked at my Alexa ranking since June 30th. I'm kinda itching to see where I'm at, but I don't want to know. Actually, I kinda do, but I don't. I was around 486,000 on June 30th. Maybe you can tell me whether I'm below or above that number currently…..JUST DON'T TELL ME THE NUMBER!

Nice work. I'll admit, I've turned it on to look at other websites, but not my own. It is tempting though! Nice work in rockin' the twitterverse. I'm always surprised when people tweet my posts. Makes me feel special :)

Almost! You're within 20k of the goal!!!

It really is tough to not look. It's been nice for me, though, because I feel better about my site already. I don't get bummed out by my ranking staying the same, or just crawling downward. I just hope I'm not bummer out when I start checking is again in August!

Don't do it! I bet you're under 200k by the time this challenge is over.

4 more days to go! When I stopped, I think I was around 486,000 or something. I haven't looked at it since June 30th. Don't tell me my score!

I have found that I am worrying a lot less about my blog, and my traffic has almost doubled, which is pretty awesome. I think being on a Yakezie has definitely helped out with that a ton. I hope once I start looking again I won't care too much, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't DYING TO KNOW MY RANKING!

Oh well, this was a fun exercise, and helped me focus on what's important; putting out quality content, engaging readers, building relationships.

WOOHOO! So I started this challenge hovering around 490,00-ish. Opened it up today, and I'm down to 242,918!

Hoping to break the 200,000 mark in the next month!

I want to sincerely thank my team for all the love and motivation. I wouldn't be near the goal if it wasn't for you all!

I think you'll be pretty happy with the results

You both are really inspiring me to do this (once I reach the sub-million mark, anyway.) Congratulations to you both! Some amazing grit and will-power in this thread.
