Hi guys,
After taking advice on the "skyscraper technique" from Backlinko, I've just finished up an article which is just shy of 30,000 words, which is more than a lot of books!
111 Ways To Save Money On Household Bills
If you have a few seconds, I'd loooovvveee to know a few things:
- Have you ever had success/failure with such an article?
- Do you notice that these looonnnngggg articles do better in google that your long articles?
- How did you go about promoting and getting trusted backlinks?
Also, if anyone would be interested in linking to this article from their site, I would be more than willing to add an article which you are trying to improve your google rankings for on an relevant existing Moneystepper article.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Graham.

Wow! That *IS* a monster. How long did it take you to write? What has been the response from the "site owners that have already linked out to similar content"?

Interesting strategy. I had not heard of the skyscraper technique before. I just read the Backlinko article and I guess it makes some sense although the concepts aren't necessarily groundbreaking. Writing great content and then trying to get links is pretty basic approach. I wonder if monster sizing the article length will be that impactful? It seems the true driver of the traffic increase in his example was getting the quality links which could have still been attainable by "cold calling" for links for a shorter article as well.
In any case, congrats on writing a 30,000 word post. My fingers hurt just thinking about typing that up! Let us know how it works out.

Moneytime – it took a while – probably around 20-25 hours in total. Let's hope it's worth it. For your second question, I'm currently 2 replies from 20 emails, but the two were people who I was actually already talking to about another matter. So, in reality 0 from 18 on the "cold calls"…
Mr Utopia – true. I guess the new part for me was making something clearly better and more exhaustive than an existing alternative and then specifically targeted people who had posted to that article in the past to see if they'd be happy to switch their links. So far, the response rate doesn't seem great…however…
Would either of you be willing to link to the article in exchange for a relevant backlink elsewhere on Moneystepper? ;)

Wow, that is a monster! We've had a lot of success writing the Whale Post, which is what I call it. I've never created something that big though, except for my book!
Nice job.

I could probably work a link in somewhere, but my site doesn't have the authority the backlinko article describes having…

Hi moneystepper,
I just got done with a post-series on different way to save money around the house and could definitely place a link to your article in my post about utility bills. Let me know if you're interested.
