No worries. The public forums are indexed by all the search engines and can be read by anyone without even registering, so we don't want sensitive information out there. It is for everyone's protection. Thanks for understanding.

Whew! Mine is still intact. Glad I don't have to freak out right now. However, I'm glad we're discussing how important it is to diversify (like everything else in the personal finance world) our traffic sources.

Mine has not changed but even if it did there would have been very little drama – one of the advantages to have a low rank (and probably the only one). I also have a very large spread between PR and MozRank but I have learned that all this a mystery which I may never fathom.

I'm joining many of you as a member of the zero club now. I won't let G get me down – I will keep blogging as usual. More and more people are starting to see G as a big bully… but even the biggest bully on the schoolyard can't bring down great content and supportive networks! For any newbies out there, please don't let this discourage you.

Welcome, Krantcents! I refuse to let G get the better of me through this, so we might as well have some fun with it! I'm thinking of making a zero club badge to put on my site (to highlight the ridiculousness of PR and the usefulness of mozrank). Haha! :)

To be honest, I really didn't expect that you would have been one of the ones to be hit. It would seem to be connected to some advertisers, and you don't seem to do much (or none?) of that on your site.

Well, the way I see it (and please feel free to stop reading now) is the following:
1) there are three possible approaches to the situation: compliance, defiance and refucusing.
2) Compliance is the least radical and productive one – you feel bad because someone else won and you don't get what you want;
3) Defiance is the one that makes you feel better but doesn't mean that you get what you want;
4) Refocusing is the most powerful one – you not only shift your attention to something else but work towards overall, group change of focus. More importantly, thne chances are you will get what you want.
I believe that what is happening is a perfect opportunity to enact point 4 – and am convinced that we can do it as a group. I am ready to expalin what I mean (if someone is still reading and interested) in private communication.

I went from a 4 to a 2 on my blog, but my "company" site, personal site, and niche site remained at PR3, PR1, and PR1 respectively. Like someone was saying earlier, I think it's the UK links. Time for a new strategy. Who knew blogging could be so scary.

Not speak, but once upon a time, I could do a passable job of reading Attic Greek. I've probably forgotten more vocabulary than I remember at this point.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Maria,
I couldn't agree more. By all means, drop me an email.
On the subject, I think that this one metric controls a specific type of advertising and this metric is owned by one company. Basing the income of a site, or business, on one metric/controlled source is a guaranteed way to put your eggs in one basket and if that basket springs a leak (or is set to flame) – you're done. Especially if you rely on that basket to put dinner on the table.
Diversification is key.
As I said, drop me an email. Happy to discuss in more detail.

Stupid question: Even if Google were to ding a site, do they do it in realtime? Wouldn't it just go to 0 the next time they update? Or is it "can't move up or down for normal reasons between PR updates but if we want to ding you for something we'll do it whenever we want"?
Hey Nick, no one really knows how Google arrives at their algorithm or what they are looking, and very few people would know. As Suba said so clearly
However, it is well known that Google does hand checks on sites by staff. In other words they do manual audits whenever for whatever reason. As Suba said, they can manually adjust the PR ranking accordingly.
Cheers

That's so cool that you speak Greek. I studied a few Ancient Greek dialects in college!

I have a question for those who saw their PR drop. Have you seen a decrease in your search traffic? I am curious and it is relevant to a post I am considering running that calls out Google as the bully they are. I realize the risks in running such a post and am willing to risk my PR1 and 3.5% search traffic in the hopes that the post will gain some traction and open some eyes.
