I have a question for those who saw their PR drop. Have you seen a decrease in your search traffic? I am curious and it is relevant to a post I am considering running that calls out Google as the bully they are. I realize the risks in running such a post and am willing to risk my PR1 and 3.5% search traffic in the hopes that the post will gain some traction and open some eyes.
Search results stayed the same – no drop.
The PR that has been taken away is the one shown publicly. However a site is measured for search traffic has not been changed.

It wont hurt traffic…in fact, the only thing PR does is perhaps lend credibility to a site (for those that even know what PR is), and the ability to spread linkjuice to a site you like…which on a bad day could be deemed harmful by google anyways. So quite honestly, it helps with some things, but isnt necessary to blogging by any means.

I can't comment on this penalty; however, when I was penalized a couple years ago, SE traffic seemed unaffected and increased during that time. One can never truly know though what it would have been had I not been penalized in the first place, but most people believe it to be relatively unrelated.

I've had a PR0 penalty for several years, and have yet to see any sort of SE traffic drop.

If you don't mind me asking BB, has it affected your ability to produce income on the site at all?

In terms of getting paid posts and text links coming in, absolutely. But, that's what got this most recent round in trouble, I think. I still make a fair amount off of adsense, and could probably make a bit more using affiliate stuff but I'm only just beginning to test that stuff out. The thing to remember about having a PR0 is that instead of having the private ad side of things to bouy the rest of the income, you've got to focus on stuff like adsense, CPM, and CPA stuff. On the bright side, I think that stuff is a bit more sustainable, and helps you avoid having the "honesty" question when you don't have any paid posts you have to explain.

I figured this was the case. Thanks for the openness!

Great info folks..
Its interesting to see the curious google-y landscape that everyone has to navigate.
Looking forward to getting our first page rank.
Whenever that happens.

Sometimes Google just does this and it comes back in a few days, weeks, etc. Other times the big G is giving you the smack down for breaking the rules. Do you sell lots of text links?
@ Lisa sometimes Google dance with page ranks..
I checked my pr in many tools some showing 4 and some are 0, I am a bit confused too.
There is nothing to worry about..
Cheers!!

My PR had gone down from 4 to 3.
So like SB @OneCentAtATime I no-followed a few links and sent a reconsideration request. Google came back saying that the manual action penalty that was done has now been revoked and my PR has gone back to 4.
If you guys have any questions feel free to email me at tusharm@gmail.com.

nofollowing ads where the expectation was that the ads were dofollow could well end up with legal ramifications. If you made a deal and the deal was reviewed and payment was made changing said deal after the fact could be problematic.
Beside the moral/ethical question of changing the terms of an agreement w/o permission from the 2nd party it sure isn't "Yakezie like" to do such a thing IMO. If you made a deal you should stick to it.
Congratulating people who recovered their PR using under-handed or sneaky methods doesn't seem quite right to me.
