Yesterday, I removed Commentluv on my site because I saw another Yakezie thread saying that CommentLuv damages your google rankings. I experienced the same thing, because mysteriously, my search engine traffic has been sagging.
So immediately, I'm noticing a ton more visitors from search engines!

When did you remove and from when traffic increased?

I cant imagine search engine hits going up within 24 hours after removing commentluv.
by the way, has anyone confirmed that commentluv hurts PR?

Yep. Coincidence.
No, I have seen no proof and these blanket assumptions are extremely misleading.

I think CommentLuv with Do Follow links will hurt you because the links in the comments are not relevant to your posts. Use No Follow for your CommentLuv links and you should be fine.
I would challenge you as to what posts were hitting on your search. Was there a news article or something that could have prompted people to search for those keywords?

Within 24 hours! I saw the previous yakezie thread, and I felt that it made sense. I also searched online and found a few other blogmasters with the same conviction.

It may not hurt pr that much. But it seems like Google has its own internal pr that's constantly updated, and the pr rank that's available to the public isn't always in line with the internal one. Just because it doesn't hurt pr doesn't mean it won't hurt your rankings. Your rankings aren't a direct deviation off of the PR.

I think he's referring to this thread I started in June: http://yakezie.com/forums/blog…..38;ret=all
I can't say with 100% certainty that removing it was the source of additional search engine traffic, but I can say that I see no reason to bring it back to life.

Thanks for the great conversation. I currently don't have commentluv installed, but have searched the settings in wordpress to see if the links set up in my comments are do follow or no follow, and have no clue. Any tips for a newbie? Is there an easy way to find this out?

If you're using chrome, right click, inspect element.

Just out of curiosity, how is having comment luv (you can easily set it to no follow, so I am assuming it was set to nofollow) different than having double the amount of comments? And I thought google puts really less values on the comment links anyways? Not questioning or anything, just curious about how it works.

Ya, those monster sites that get hundreds of comments on their articles get smoked by Google. :|

I thought the more comments, the better. Google views more comments as more people enjoying the blog post, hence they rank it higher in the SERPs.

It is too difficult to assess what moves your search engine traffic ratings. I doubt that one comment plugin had that much of an effect.

Strange. You would think comments would be a good thing. Especially if they are no follow. Am I wrong?

To test this theory more, I've reinstalled the commentluv plugin (nofollow of course). I'm gonna see how that goes, and I'll keep you guys updated.

Miss T, comments are good. MITR and SPF just meant that in a lighter sense.
