Inspired by the popularity of sites like I Waste So Much Time, Work LOLs, and Damn You AutoCorrect, I've thought about throwing my hat in the ring with a site dedicated to captioned pics. I thought I'd call it something along the lines of "Cap'd" or "Captionz"

I'm trying to decide on a domain name. The most obvious ones are already taken. I'd like to get people's thoughts on the following options:

  • cap-pics.com
  • captionpics.com
  • capdpics.com
  • capd-pics.com
  • captiondpics.com
  • captiond-pics.com
  • captionzpics.com
  • captionz-pics.com

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Don't use names with dashes. Also, try to go with .com first if it is available. I like captiondpics.com

How about CaptionedPictures.com (it is available!)?  This phrase gets 49,500 global searches per month on Google (according to the Adwords Keyword Tool). You could probably quite easily get a very high ranking for this search term if you have that domain.  Smile

Or perhaps even better CaptionPictures.com (this is also available!) This phrased gets 74,000 global searches per month on Google.

I'm quite surprised these are available! Smile

Edward,

I would recommend Noble Samurai's product Market Samurai  (affiliate link) or you can google it and go straight to their site.  I use it and I know others do as well.

Market Samurai is a powerful tool for keyword research, competition analysis, and will show you domains available related to your keywords.   Pat Flynn wrote an article about the recent changes to how google shares (charges for) data.  Long story short is Market Samurai has had to modify how the Rank Tracker functions and may be charging a monthly fee for that service in the future.

Of those, I like captionpics.com the best because it includes correctly spelled words (or at least internet words like pics), no dashes, descriptive, and is a .com.   Is captionedpics.com not available?

I didn't even think to search for names with the full word for picture.

Captionedpics.com is already taken. Since last night, captionpics.com is taken as well! Yikes! I better get this done fast!

Thanks FrugalToad and Jonnypean for those links. I'll have to check them out.

Edward,

I just wrote a post about choosing a domain name and came across a site called Damai.nr that can find alternative forms of your keyword.name.  Similar to del.icio.us.  Might be worth looking into.

Edward (great to see another I25 Resident!)

I suggest you poke around market samurai first – it will give you a 40 day free trial, and it's pretty easy to use.

If you're hoping to get traffic through SEO I wouldn't worry about dashes – you're likely to have better luck getting captioned-pictures.com (available as of 1 min ago) to rank for the term "captioned pictures" than you are getting captionzpics.com to rank for the same term. If your goal is to get people to remember the url and type it in later than I agree, avoid dashes.

Good luck!

My reply got lost. Grr. Anyways…

I plan on going with captiondpics.com and adding captionpictures.com as an add-on domain to better capture SEO traffic.

FrugalToad, Thanks for the site. I couldn't find anything that I liked, but that's a useful site to remember in the future.

Jeff, I just finished watching the four introductory videos last night. I'll admit that keywords are very intimidating for me, and the software tends to actually make it more so.  So many options! So many things that I don't think about at all!

While I can get started on finding content and creating the site now, purchase the domain(s) is on hold until April. That is when the side-income I use to pay for miscellaneous purchases resumes.
