I've seen some members categorize their topics in the header note in the same area as the Home, About, Advertise tabs and etc.

Is there an advantage to doing it this way as oppose to using a Catergory Widget? Is this more effective? I kind of like how clean it looks

I just had Briana @ 20 and Engaged take care of this for me!  I use categories, but I have them linked to my pages, I still have a few extra categories that dont fit.  I highly recommend contacting her and using her services if you want this done.

I personally think it looks more professional. That's why I chose to do it. Not sure if this is just my opinion or not. I also think it offers readers a great way to see what you are about. So, choose wisely. You can always change it, but it might be lots more work later to go back and change. It is a great way for them to jump into the material as well.

I agree with 20s finances. It does look more professional when you put them at the top instead of in a sidebar. If Breanna can sort this out for you that is great.

You will end up with a lot of categories. So it is a good way to highlight a few categories/pages that you want to showcase in front of your visitors. If you add all of them it will just clutter. Pick a few categories you are proud of or categories that really reflect the overall theme of your blog and highlight them.

I have a few major categories in tabs across the top, and the rest are in a dropdown box in the sidebar. I need to organize some of them into subcategories and have a dropdown menu for each major topic.

Doesnt this help establish google authority as well? For instance, you search one of our blog names, the 6 to 8 links listed under the homepage link.  I dont personally have this yet, which is why I wanted the pages setup.  Plus it was a suggestion from LaTisha, and makes a lot of sense.

I think it just clutters up the homepage. I prefer the categories widget, that way readers know where to look if they're trying to find the categories. They might get confused with the header bar if it has categories.

You should definitely give your readers a navigation bar that explains exactly what your site is about.

I think Studenomics does a great job at this. He has 2 navigation bars. One for business (about, contact, etc) and one for the theme of the site.

Just by looking at his navigation bar you know what 99% of the content will be about.

I used to do that until I messed up part of the code on my site and haven't had time to fix it. I think this is the best way to use the navigation bars.
