I was wondering if anyone tried anything specific to get more subscribers to their blog.
After blogging for about 3-4 months, I was more concerned about SEOing the articles. What worked well for you? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Best way, shelve some bucks and have a giveaway, make a few conditions to follow basically your everything. and run for couple of weeks. Subscribers will be 10 times than what it is today. I have to try myself soon

You could probably make subscribing to your blog easier. The twitter/rss icons seem quite small and hard to pick out from the rest of your sites theme. I would try to make these options more obvious and possibly adding the options at the bottom of a post. These changes have helped me.
Lots of people have all the options to follow after someone makes a post. I haven't tried that, but I imagine that it would work very well to get more subscribers.

Promotions are an excellent way to get subscribers! Chances are, you already have some consistent viewers of your page, but people don't feel the need to become a subscriber until you give them some incentive – a $25 Amazon gift card for example.
Since my site is doing quite well lately, I think I'm going to offer a free iPad as my next promotion. That should yield some new interest! :)

Giveaways and time. If you have SEO'd and give it time, you will have a gradual increase in subscribers.

Does anyone have advice on multiple small giveaways or one large giveaway?
Also, say I have $500 to giveaway. Is it better to give it all away to one person, or two $250, or five $100? Anyone with experience would be very helpful! Thanks!

I would say that hosting a few giveaways would give you a great boost in subscribers. You could also give away something huge like an iPad and a few other electronics to get your numbers up quickly!

I would split the money up to have three winners, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Will motivate more people to enter when they have a better chance of winning.

I would split the money up as well. Multiple prizes are best.

Multiple prizes are the best. I've gotten tons of entries for my giveaway with 15 prizes.

I agree with the multiple prize format. I have sponsored and entered these types of giveaways, and I have found them to be very successful!

I must admit that since I hired staff writers I have gotten more subscribers. Not only do they help promote the posts they write but they also give a different perspective to my readers other than my own. As your blog gets more established I would definitely look into this.

guest posting on similar but bigger blogs than yours
encouraging your readers to subscribe to your RSS / Mailing list / follow twitter at the end of each post (via a widget)
once you get over 50 subscribers, show your numbers of RSS subs, it tells people that you are popular ;-)
be active on social media
comment a lot on similar blogs to yours
participate in forum and add your rss in your signature
