Hi All,
I am excited to announce that I've joined the Yakezie Challenge! I've lurked here for a while, toyed with the idea of starting my own blog, and now I'm off to the races!
Just to introduce myself and my blog, Personal Finance Beat:
While the content I cover is the usual fare — saving, spending, debt, investing, etc. — the format/style is a bit different than most personal finance blogs. Instead of exclusively posting personal, long-form content once per-day, I update the site (or, this is the goal, anyway!) 5-7 times per day with short, quick, one-hit posts that link to something interesting that I've read elsewhere in the personal finance community. Then, usually, I will add a little commentary of my own to the quoted portion of the linked post. As I explain in my About section, "My hope is that if I send you off to read something of value somewhere else, you’ll come back knowing that I’ll have something interesting for you each time you stop by, whether it’s a post of my own, or a link to someone else’s."
This format/style inherently lends itself to sharing other people's work, which I feel is what makes part of the Yakezie community so special. A reader can come by the site once a day, scan the main page, and get a quick rundown of a handful of interesting personal finance commentary that I've linked to. And in addition to the linked posts, I will on occasion post a longer piece of my own, such as this one I did on my 401k/taxes.
Anyway, that's the idea behind the site. Any and all feedback is appreciated. Hope you enjoy!
Mike

I've seen sites with a similar concept before that haven't done well. Hopefully, you can find the magic formula for making it work. Best of luck!

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

Thanks! I'd be curious to know which sites you're talking about.
For me, these are the types of blogs I like to read (see: Daring Fireball, in the tech space), so it made sense to create something similar. Either way, I will be working hard to find that "magic formula," as you say!

The ones I'm thinking off died off a long time ago.
But bringing that up, I have seen it in the tech space before. My brother subscribes to a site that sends about 10 posts per day in it's RSS feed. Personally, if a site had 10 posts per day in my feed or inbox, I'd unsubscribe. My RSS Reader is pretty unmanageable as it is!

Welcome to the challenge. I will say that it could be hard to get traction on search engines because your content will be mostly links to other websites. If you come up with some good content about once a week and keep your regular posting schedule, then you could succeed!

Yeah, that's the plan — to also publish original content 3-4 times a month. I figured, there are already enough "How to Start an Emergency Fund"-type posts out there that the Internet doesn't really need another one of those blogs.
Appreciate all the feedback and well-wishes. I'm hoping I can provide a unique, value proposition for readers who are looking for a mix of relevant news and advice links.

PFB, forge ahead and see how it goes. Undoubtedly you'll be inspired to make course corrections during your blogging journey, as have we all! Most importantly, have fun! Best of luck, and welcome to Yakezie.

Welcome, and good luck! If the format doesn't work initially, you can always adjust as required. It's all about experimentation!

Ha — so far, so good. I'm having a good time. Got the Alexa ranking down to almost under 2 million (from over 5m!), lol!
Now I've also got the added incentive to prove that my model can, in fact, be successful. So there's that.
