Does anyone have any advice on increasing a site's Page Authority and Domain Authority? My DA for If You Can Read, You Can Cook has been holding steady for a few months now and my PA is actually falling.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

That's actually a great question that I don't believe I've ever heard asked. I'll be interested to see what people have to say!

My assumption would be that you are getting more direct links toward interior pages (like posts and such), while getting few links to your homepage. Page authority is just that page, while domain incorporates all the pages. Much of this is calculated by the quantity and quality of links going toward your site, so to increase both would be to get links to your site.

You could try linking to your homepage from interior pages (naturally, of course) or you could try doing guest posts or get mentioned in major new publications (which might include a link to your homepage).

ALSO, I would say that it's rare to see an active site's PA drop, so another thing to keep in mind is that the calculations that create the numerical score CHANGE. If it dropped unexpectedly, I would suspect that there was a drop across numerous sites, and not just yours.

That's my $.02.

Corey,

Thanks for the input. I figured the decrease was probably external to my actions, but that doesn't mean I don't want to work on increasing that score! I'll have to see about finding good ways to link to the homepage from some of my higher ranked pages and getting some guest posts done soon.

Check out these vids from SEOMoz.  I haven't had time to review them, but it seems like they should touch on what you are looking to understand.

I've seen the SEOMoz videos, but they largely confused me by talking about trying match Google's rankings without regard to keywords, which strike me as the most important part! I may get a page to rank highly for George Foreman grills but poorly on Weber grills, and not at all on car grills!

Honestly, I don't even worry too much about that stuff and let it work itself out.  I stick to the a basic formula: writing in a natural manner (not just nonsensical phrases just to stuff keywords), making sure the content (title and body) keeps within the topic I'm writing about, using anchors for links that are actual keywords or phrases (rather than using "here" or "article" as the anchors), using keywords similar or in the same general realm as the ones I'm trying to highlight, and linking to both authoritative external sources as well as deep linking within my own site.

If you get too caught up in trying to write for ranking systems, you'll end up with stuff that is either hard to read or something that just looks spammy–both of which will turn people off.  And, on top of that, the algos will eventually figure it out, while penalizing you in the process.
