Hey guys,
Looks like Google has updated PR once again. While many probably stayed the same, myself and some other bloggers got a bump up! So what does this mean for our blog? Does going from 3 to 4 mean more advertisers? Does going from 4 to 5 mean higher rates? How can we continue to grow and fight being reduced for the next update? Essentially, what does a higher PR do for our blogs and how we conduct it?
Would love to hear anyone's thoughts/insight.
Hey, I just checked my and to my surprise, my blog's PR went up from 0 (zero) to PR 3.. Yappi!!. It's just 60 days old blog & good Pagerank I got. Now, I need to maintain this.
To me, with a higher PR I can charge more for my ads. Thats it. It has nothing to do with ranking or something like this. I would, hence, prefer keyword ranking to PR increase. Anyway, it feels nice that I got a good PR.

I think you have to enjoy the writing first and foremost. If you want to write for PR and can truly get enjoyment out of that, then great, more power to you. But, when I tried writing for PR/SEO, I got so bored that I almost quit. Now, having PR/Moz is just a side benefit. And, the articles that generate most of my search engine traffic are ones that I never would have guessed would have but they were about subjects I just wanted to write about, so you really never can predict where you're going to land.
Or at least, I can't

Financial God got a PR2. The other two sites stayed at 3 and 2. Not so bad!

Something to keep in mind is that Google updates PR continuously and does not share what they are using internally, and they also use many other factors when determining SERPs, that they again do not disclose. While external PR might be a good heuristic for advertisers, it still comes down to good content as you have said. :)

Hey guys, I wasn't suggesting that good content wasn't important ;) Far from it.. In fact if you didn't have good content then you wouldn't have a good PR. Its not an exclusive thing – these two things work together (good content = PR). Google made that quite clear after the infamous Panda Update.
Of course success comes from the enjoyment of blogging, comments, and readers and those that we come to know as friends. Who would argue with that?
All I'm saying is don't take the PR for granted, its worth gold in this business ;) unless you are just blogging for fun of course.
Cheers

As per google blog, PR has 5% significance in search ranking. They did mention it not very long ago.
Advertisers already moved away from PR to DA and PA. A few small SEO firms who still didn't upgrade them selves run after PR and put money on high PR.
I may be wrong but this is my inference after intensely following google blog, SEOMoz blog and Warrior forum for past 2 weeks.
I know this is a big statement, but world is changing fast.
So they are switching to SEOmoz? Cool… always good to see some competition in this space, and some differentiation so that Google doesn't hold all of the cards. I'm sure it still helps to not have PR 0.

PR has very little effect on how you rank for searches. A PR1 can be higher in the search results than a PR6. You can easily verify that by just doing a few random searches on Google. The main value of PR to me is for setting ad rates. My blog went from PR3 to PR0 a few years ago and it didn't have any effect on my search traffic but it did affect the advertising offers.

I'm just happy I'm not a zero! I started on Jan 16 with a PR 0, no Alexa rating – went to Alexa rating of 5.5mil on the 20th, and am now 23 days later a PR 1 with Alexa rating of 1.3mil.
Not doing as good as other people, but at the same time I'm happy things are chugging along.

No you arent wrong at all… I have had a lot of my bloggers come back to me and wonder if their higher PR will equal more money on ad deals. And in some cases, yes it will, but only those stragglers that still hold on to PR as the only thing of value. Many are looking at DA, PA, external links, and age of the site. Very occasionally we get Mozrank in there too.

Now I have to ask the dummy question. I know what PR and SEO and moz are, but what's PA and SA?

When your PR goes up, raise your ad rates. :)
Ditto to that. This is what I have heard as the one and only things that can change. I stayed the same. Hoping for a bump next time.

I definitely agree with Crystal. Ever since I made more blog more personal, I feel like it's growing like crazy. And I enjoy it more!

PA = Page Authority
SA = Site Authority? (I assume this is the same as Domain Authority)

Thanks Jeremy for the link, I gotta admit, this can get pretty overwhelming, there are so many different ways to track a site.

Great job everyone! For those who didn't get a bump in PR (like myself ) don't fret. I am starting to get a lot of search traffic and working on updating/improving my keyword research. There are a lot of stats you can be tracking, but remember that what you're writing matters a whole lot more to readers and most readers do not know what 90% of these blog stats mean. They just need your info and your personal insights!

Well said friend.. I guess it 99% of visitors who are least bothered or aware of this stats. What matter to them is the experience with our content and nothing else. If they are happy, SEs have to be happy.
