Proof that longer doesn't always equal higher traffic

I'd love to hear your stories about posts you wrote in 5 – 15 minutes that ended up being huge.

Here's mine: I looked up crazy holidays a couple weeks ago and found that National "Blame Someone Else Day" was coming up….so I wrote a post about how to blame everyone else because you stink with money. It was just a list that was fun to create and quick to deliver. It was also one of the biggest days on my blog, with nearly 2x the traffic we normally have.

….a good reminder that good content doesn't always have to be "epic" and sometimes readers want to have some fun.

Yeah, I've had those. Thing is that I can never predict which one will strike a chord.

Good work, friend :).

I had a huge traffic spike when Obama was elected because I wrote talking about how his life automation habits (like wearing always the same colored shirt) could lead to saving time. Nothing to do with politics but the keyword was trending.

People writing about last minute gifts for father's day, valentine… seem to have a good traffic spike as well.

I've often noted a similar thing. Short, sharp articles which grab the interest of the reader for a minute or so, can often be just as powerful as the meandering 2000 word beasts.
