Hunter, I'm not ready to drop RSS altogether, but I plan to de-emphasize it on my site. I'm focused entirely on getting email subscribers and Facebook followers.

There's one thing I just can't seem to get, so bear with me all as I ask these stupid questions:

Is building an email list the same as getting email subscribers? I assume that my email subscribers are getting every post I post via email. Would they also then get the newsletter or whatever I send out? And RSS subscribers would just get the post updates but not the newsletter or extra stuff unless they specifically opt in?

Yes, I'm reading this the same way, Facebook & Email followers are the best ways to connect.

 

I don't think these are stupid questions.

 

It's my understanding that you build an email list by having people subscribe by way of a form that can easily be created through Mailchimp or Aweber. From this list you can email web-page like forms that look very professional.

 

This is a separate list to people that have already subscribed via email through Feeburner. I think it's fairly easy to move Feedburner email subscribers over to your new email list, and even RSS Feedburner subscribers too. I would think that RSS subscribers are mailny interested in articles, and email subscribers are looking for a more personal connection + promotions & offers.
