that's a great point . .  i have realized best results after key events/milestones . . . so it happens with each key event, but that said, the count has been increasing more rapidly as of late, as i am seeing more organic search engine traffic resulting from SEO

I will be interesting to see whattomorrow as we were highlighted by a major Canadian newspaper today.

Before today our previous visit top 5 were: 310, 278 and 269.  Today, with 3.5 hrs left until midnight we've had 593 visits …. it has been an exciting day! :)

Previous highs on unique visitors are 268,267 and 243 – today 546!

SPF – the plugin I use is "FD Feedburner":

http://wordpress.org/extend/pl…..er-plugin/

It will redirect all feeds to the feedburner url you put in its options.  Works like a charm.  It won't magically get you more subscribers, but it will ensure all of your feed subscribers are getting the same feed from feedburner, no matter how they subscribed.

I installed this yesterday and my subscriber count jumped about 60 overnight on the feedburner dashboard.  I don't see this kind of change that quickly in general.

Thanks Jaymus!

I was using FD Feedburner but it was breaking my link on my website and people couldn't subscribe so I had to ditch it …

Jaymus. If I have my feed burned to feedburner and have always used that as my subscribe option, then do I need this plug in? I am trying to understand what issues SPF has been having and if I am unknowingly having the same issues.

Okay, honestly… I consider myself an experienced blog reader.  Okay, maybe I have an unhealthy addiction to the internet!  LOL.  I went and checked out your icons and, had I not been looking for the RSS icon, I would have never found it.  Though cute, it sort of blends in and you have to look at it in detail before realizing it is an RSS icon.

I am a fan of mre 'old school' icons that clearly indicate what they are for.  The ones I have on my site, for instance, are not as flashy but they are instantly recognizable.  And, to better assist my reader, I also altered them to include a simple keyword.

That said, a lot of people don't subscribe to RSS feeds, so don't worry if you don't get a lot of subscribers that way.

You might want to install a plugin with a message to new readers.

I use "what would Seth Godin Do."

A message shows right on top asking reader to subscribe if he/she is new (first 3 times.)

Thanks Jaymus

I've had some real issues w/ my site feed vs published feed and when they actually display in our readers RSS.  So if I set it up to the faster feed people will hopefully see our feeds within 30 mins of publishing instead of the random 3-10 hours we're getting now.

Thanks, I never would have known to use this plugin. I also think my stats have been affected, especially since I recently switched from blogger to wordpress.

Give it a try Miss T – PLEASE.

I e-installed it today and my readers jumped to 124!!! (from 64)  I am finally OK with showing the count widget.

The issue I had, I think, was I was pointing to the wrong feed (the RSS2 not the other one).

We also use WWSGD but you'd never see that Miss T :)

Btw – why did you ditch sexy bookmarks?

here's my 2 cents:

- contest definitely help on the short term (after that, you must deliver good content ;-) )

- make your RSS button bigger

- I would change your small RSS box text for somethign like : "you liked what you have read? get our latest update in your mailbox for free by subscribing to our RSS feed"

- add the same box at the end of your post

I see 125 today… great increase ;-D
