There appears to be a new scammer hitting blogs, I received this message from a certain Martin Dumont.
My name is Martin Dumont and I represent PAKBB Agency. We are makingan advertising campaign for Lacoste Company (it is a French companyproducing clothes, footwear, perfumery etc.) and we would like toplace their banner at your site http://www.canadianoilstocks.ca. We areinterested in banners of the following sizes: 160x600, 240x400,300x250, 336x280, 468x60, 728x90. What can be your price for onebanner (banner should appear at ALL pages of your site) ofabovementioned sizes (please specify the place for the banner – top, bottom, left, right)? Please mention a normal link for banner, withoutjavascript code and set prices in US dollars per month.
The guy is based in Ukraine (IP address) emailing you from a Paris based agency. He will accept your price and ask you to download and install a plugin (RED FLAG)
I have never encountered an advertiser that asks you to install a plugin so stay alert and don't get blinded by the money…
Mich
He is hitting others as well: http://keepsafeonthenet.co.uk/…..in-dumont/

I did a plugin ad once with Adbeans and it was not a great experience. I did get paid but the rate was not as agreed so I dumped them pretty fast.

I got this too and asked the Yakezie network about it last week. Thankfully, I was told that it was a scam and to stay away from it! It sounded like a great opportunity, until they wanted me to download a plug. Scam Scam Scam Scam Scam!!!

Had a challenger ask me about a too good to be true offer. He sent me the content of the email and it looked very familiar. Same message as here but a new name: My name is Evan Hubert and I represent Gelbert Agency. We are making an advertising campaign for Lacoste Company

I wonder how many unsuspecting people fall for this scam? I have to admit I very well could have if caught in the right moment… that is why I am thankful to have someone else manage my advertising for me (thanks, Crystal)! There are many benefits to outsourcing this for me and avoiding scams is a big one!

I guess this means we have to be even more careful. I'm sure they have countless names they use for these scams.
Thanks for the heads up!

This will not help in all these cases, but it does with some.
With every offer that comes in via email, I copy the domainname dot com/net/ etc. of the senders email address into Google with a "site:domainname dot com/net/ etc." search.(Obviously, this is not helpful with yahoo gmail and similar email addresses.)
Complaints about scams and frauds usually bubble to the top of the SERPs, but you can also add the word "fraud" and/or "scam" to the search. This is a quick screen to help decide whether to even respond to promotional offers targeted at webmasters.
Also, if you run with the Web of Trust plugin (Google it), you will get warnings when you visit sites that others have thought were problematic.

I do that too, and couldnt find anything about this guy. Most likely because he changes his email/domain/name so consistently. In fact, if I didnt remember the LaCoste portion of the thread in here, I wouldnt have caught it so quickly. So a HUGE thank you to Beating the Index for posting it up here to begin with.
