I'm planning on launching a second site next week (actually, some of you may have caught an accidental sneak preview last weekened). This time around, I feel enormous pressure to not have the site suck. When I started Daily Money Shot, I just started writing. I didn't care about anything else like layout or logo or themes…I just hit publish. Now, for this one, I feel like I can't unleash it on the world unless it's "ready" (or ready enough). I have no idea why I'm putting this pressure on myself.
Has anyone else experienced this when starting another site?

haha – I was one of those select few who got a sneak peak.
I haven't experience this, but I have found that my second site has had a lot more success than the first one (at least on the time frame) – mostly because I kind of know what I'm doing when it comes to SEO.
Don't worry about it – you'll do great!

In starting my second site i felt less pressure because I knew more of what I was doing, and felt like I knew I could succeed launching another site. I actually put less pressure on myself as well as far as writing posts every day/etc and it made it much more enjoyable. :)

Nope. In fact, each successive site of mine has gotten uglier. I prefer the sparse look, anyway.

Don't get stressed out. In fact you will realize that your second site will definitely be awesome because you may not make the same mistakes as you did with the first one.
Anyway, the more important thing is, you write really well and that's more important than any logo or theme.

I'm actually just pressuring myself to open a second blog, period.
I have enough material for two sites, but I don't think I should start until I'm comfortable with my first.
But my inner voice is telling me that because these things take so long to germinate, why not at least start on a new one without pushing it very hard.

I have felt this pressure! It's part of the reason why I said I wouldnt start any more blogs from scratch…rather I want to buy existing ones. I spent a decent amount of money on the logo for Money Is The Root, and setting it up took me awhile. Now I kinda want to just start getting content up and not worry about other stuff.

I've felt the pressure you're talking about. Unfortunately for me it was for my first site. I'm kind of a perfectionist and I think if you're going to do something then you should do it well. It took 3 months for me to launch my site from the time I purchased the domain/theme.
Stupid pressure. As many people say, it's better to be 90% correct and be published, than 100% correct and never be read.

Just pull the trigger and keep building as you go. It is hard to have something perfect to start. Fear of imperfection has prevented a lot of amazing things from happening.

Yeah, I caught a sneak preview, haha. Definitely dive in (in case you're worried, what I saw didn't suck.)

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad I'm not alone with the stressful feelings but I do agree that I need to just go ahead and launch it without worrying about it looking perfect. I did the logo myself so I'm not out any money but for some reason, I'm really nervous this time around. It's almost like a test as to whether or not I learned anything with DMS.
In any event, it's going live on the 29th, perfect or not.

Your site is awesome. And I not only got a sneak peak, I gave a sneak peak to others. The kids I sent it to- your target audience, all thought it was pretty cool.

I know what you mean, as I had some similar thoughts before I recently launched Tie the Money Knot (my 2nd blog). We all want to learn from experience, so I get where you're coming from. Of course, sometimes immediate action is better than spending lots of time optimizing before taking action. There's something to be said about just getting started.

Exciting to see the new site, Jana..
You have nothing to worry about.
I can tell from the way that you write on MoneyShot that the words just flow out of you..
I look forward to reading your thoughts on a new topic. :-)

No not at all. I hop in and work around my lack of knowledge. I think I actually like the pressure of knowing I have to make things look and feel great.

I'm feeling this pressure with naming my business, and sometimes I feel like I'm being ridiculous, even though it's an important decision to me. I think one important thing is to just get started, and get it out there, and respond to feedback. You can't build the perfect thing up front, but you can evolve your site as you go along. It will be a lot easier to do that, too, since you will have a wall of feedback to bounce off of.

Yes. I'm still trying to get my travel blog up and running. I think I've finished all of the cosmetic stuff that needs to be done. My stress really comes from the fact that I want to switch the theme on Odd Cents to the same theme as the travel blog. It's been a learning process and I will admit that it was necessary to make the Odd Cents transition a smooth one. But I know that your new blog will be great!
