*sigh* I think it's time for me to delegate tasks. I would like to hire someone to help out with SEO and link building and have no idea where to start, who is reliable and what's reasonable for a quality SEO person and in budget.
I know where to go to find SEO people, but find that it's a mixed barrel when you are going off leads on boards or people's website. If you have anyone you've worked with recently (or do this yourself) that got results and didn't charge an arm for it, I would love personal recommendations. Thanks!

Shannyn,
I do SEO stuff, but I don't have any testimonials backing me up. My only credentials so far are working on my sites. If you want to chat, shoot me an email.
I know LaTisha and other people do that too. LaTisha worked with Money is the root and he had good results. So he might give you some ideas too…

Yes, I do on site SEO for search rankings and traffic but not link building. I helped Justin go from 28% percent SE traffic to over 50% in two months.
I would refer you to Corey at 20sFinances for link building. He offers carnival submissions and commenting services.

I hire a full time VA who does external link building for me. Actually, he runs his own SEO firm, and I hired one of his VA's. It's $800 a month. You can find him at freelancer.com under the username DataHome

What kind of activities does he do Tony? Does he write other articles that have links to your blog? $800 a month sounds pretty pricy.

One kind of SEO I came across today. Basically there are comment blasters, the spams you get all day, they are software programs that keeps track of open comment blogs and sites. And blasts off one after another requests in rotation. Coincidentally I got an offer today for $250 a month for getting 1500 backlinks a day in blast 1. And 3000 links twice a week by blast 2. I forgot the actual blast names.
Be careful before hiring this type of services as big G has enough intelligence to detect and punish. At least now I have answer to why 100s of people feel my blog is best and my content is unmatched.

I think this is a great topic of discussion. How many visitors do you guys usually get through search engines?
About 76% of my traffic came from search engines in October. Here's what I do to make sure all my articles are optimized.
- Go check your google webmaster account to search for keywords that your blog is ranked for
- Find out which articles are linked to each keyword, and optimize your articles to try to get to page 1 of google
- Make sure your target keyword is in the HTML title tag
- Make sure your title tag contains only once instance of the keyword
- create a user friendly, easy to read meta description and include your keyword
- use atleast h1 tag on your pages which include your keywords
- use one h2 tag for your keyword
- make sure your url is NOT longer than 75 characters
- make sure that your title tag is under 70 characters
Hope this helps

I've just begun to look into this… and now I know why I feel so lost. $800 a month? Really?
What is a reasonable fee for carnival submissions? I hardly get any Google traffic… which is probably why I'm struggling so much… but there's no way I can afford paying those kinds of rates.

$800/month sounds a bit excessive. Honestly, SEO just takes time. I learned everything from scratch and I'm learning more and more everyday. Start with the basics. Go to your Google Webmaster to find keywords that your site is ranking for, and then optimize that page. Obviously your goal is to get on the first page.

Shannyn,
I think before you hire someone you need to know exactly what it is you are looking for as far as SEO and link building. Otherwise it will be difficult to measure it the actions taken are producing results.

If you're looking for another great VA to do linkbuilding, I recommend Donald Dagondon on oDesk. He runs about $120/week.

Shannyn,
My search engine traffic (and subsequently my adsense) when I slowly implemented this guide by Yoast (he makes a ton of the plugins people use daily)
http://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/
It is AMAZING. Just go chapter by chapter read it 3 or 4 times and then implement.
$800 is a shitload of money to spend per month on SEO I can't imagine that turning to a positive return on investment but what do I know.

$800 is a lot Tony. Hope that involves writing a ton of articles, creating new blogs and submitting to all the article directories to build you backlinks too. What timeframe do you have in mind to earn all that back? As you said "full time VA" I am assuming it is more than a month? So even if it hire them for 5 months $4000 is a lot to earn back from adsense (which is where SEO really makes a difference, sidebar ads will come whether you have traffic or not, unless they are CPM ads).
Anyway, my question is what is your plan and time frame to earn $4000 or how much ever you are putting in back? How do you evaluate whatever they are working on? Based on # of backlinks? increase in visitors?
SEO is really not hard, time consuming, yes. The initial learning curve is a bit steep. But nothing impossible. And also you have to understand what kind of posts do well with SE. If you normally write personal posts, they might hit a few long tail keywords, but they will never ever bring you millions of visitors by getting on the front page for saving money or some short popular keyword.
Decide what you want and then go from there.
With that said, it is not always bad to hire someone else either. As far as I know no one who is offering this service in Yakezie is doing black-hat SEO (what One cent at a time is talking about). All of us do what google wants us to do, either you take the time to go through them and do it or hire someone to do it.

That actually might be a good price then. That backlinking strategy takes time and effort. I've duplicated pieces of it using Fivver but it would require lots of orders to get to what that strategy entails. How many months are you ordering?

Hmm.. 800 a month eh. Not bad side hustle. I kind of mastered the strategy… Once I get under 100k I'll try to leverage my efforts into some side hustle income
