Yes.
Better user interface, very intuitive. You will learn shortcuts so fast that your ability to get stuff done in less time will amaze you.
It looks nicer.
It syncs across all of your Apple devices.
They hold their value really well. I am about to sell my laptop from '08 and ebay price range is 500. I paid 1k for it.
Durable. I've dropped my laptop 5 times and it still works and looks like new.
Automatic software updates
Cons: if you do like to build computers/customization you will not get that on Mac. But you will also have not much of a need for repairs either.
Some trading programs do not have a mac equivalent. (Scottrade has an advanced trading program that does not have a Mac equivalent.)
Um…. I'm grasping here, any cons that I am missing?…. guess not.
Go get a Mac.

Robert – thanks for starting this… My PC laptop is almost 3 years old (will be this December). I paid around $700 for it back then and it is still running strong, but I don't know how long it will last with how much I use it. I'm hoping it will make it another year, but have been thinking about whether I should switch or not as well.
I've been thinking about getting a mac for blogging, since 90% of my computer use these days (outside of work) is blogging related. The tax incentive helps me get over the price differential that Evan brought up.
It would take time for me to adjust, but everyone who has a mac says that they won't go back.

Apparently Macs are good enough for the Curiosity team at NASA (except for the random guy in the front with the ThinkPad).

That explains why our space program is Russian, now. :)
I just did a direct comparison of the imac keyboard and the one I'm typing on. The actual typing space is a 1/2 inch narrower and 1/4 inch shorter. Shocking. It looks a lot smaller than that.

A lot of programs don't have a Mac equivalent. A lot.
I may be biased. I am a power user. I use a lot of software that you can't find on a store shelf. I'm a software engineer with Microsoft certifications. My ability to bend a PC to my will is what pays my mortgage. :)

I'm watching this thread with great interest because I have a horrible feeling my Dell PC desktop is about to crap the bed any time now. Any suggestions on specific Mac models for bloggers?
(I received an iPod and a Samsung Galaxy tablet as gifts and the iPod is so durable and flawless—I have really become an Apple devotee due to the superior quality and would really love to save up to transition my main computer to an Apple product at some point.)

Mac can be bought for less than $1200.
Like what Andrea was saying about startup, Macs boot up and shut down quick. There's no looking at your icons, pressing them, then they don't work so you click again, get fed up, then computer actually finishes booting and 15 of the program you clicked pop up.
That the computer works when you need it is a MAJOR productivity plus.
I remember having to always check for viruses and trojans and such on my PC. I still check on my Mac but nothing gets found, unlike the ones that would sneak through on my PC.

I was late to the game in PC's. Up until 8th grade (mid 90's), I had an Atari 800 to type my papers on. A lot of people claim that Apple's interface is more intuitive, but I've gotten my brain wired so much for PC by now that Apple seems counter-intuitive. I can barely operate my wife's iPod Nano. But I can work the built-in mp3 player on my old Motorola with it in my pocket.
My point is, it IS a different interface, and if you are used to PC, there will be a "getting used to" curve. In the end, it is up to you whether your stated benefit of seamless integration is worth having to climb that curve.

Look for open box ones. Just snagged a Macbook Air for sister (who fell in love with mine) for $599. Mind you I got from a friend who runs an authorized dealership, but if you don't mind the open box part, you can get them cheaper. (Now if that isn't a PF blogger statement, I dont know what is.)

I've always been a PC guy. But have an iPhone and an iPad. When my laptop was on it's way out, I was debating this very thing. I ended up picking up a Mac. I really enjoy it. So simple to use. It took me a little time to figure out the shortcuts and everything. That was the most frustrating part. But, there are many classes that you can take (both at an Apple store and in my area, there is a school that has classes on Macs) to learn everything you want to.
I've never had an issue with it yet. As for the price, it was a little higher, but the place I bought it from had them on sale over the holidays, so I picked it up then.
As for PF software, Quicken is horrible. I use Money4, which has been great for me. (For what it's worth, I was a die hard MS Money guy for years.)

What are the money management options for a mac? I've heard about iBank, but what do you Mac users recommend or use? Mind you I do a lot of investing so keeping track of cost basis and live prices is important to me.

I'm not much help with that, unfortunately. Everything I use is either web-based or cloud-based. I'm interested to see what others are using, though, because I'm always open to trying something new.

If I upgraded my current PC to the same type of components, it would be around the same price though…
No chance Robert. A simple search on Amazon Shows 23 PC options for less expensive on an i7, 4gig ram, 15 – 16in monitor. The cheaper macs seem to be at the 13inch size which makes my eyes hurt even thinking about it.
Even if macs last for double the time I can buy one for half the price (with the same guts) and then replace it in 3 or 4 years, come out ahead AND have newer technology sooner.

Unlike all the other PC vs Mac debates on the internet, I have a feeling we'll finally solve it once and for all in this one.
I use both Macs and PCs on a daily basis for both work and pleasure. I slightly prefer my current Windows setup because it's easier to use, slightly faster than the newer Macs (you have to get the solid state drive, though), and crashes less often. My Mac at work craps out all the time, mostly when I'm trying to do something stupid. Then again, everybody seems to love their iPads and I don't really like mine that much, so to each his own. Other people find its interface "intuitive," I find it annoying and difficult to work with. It's all personal preference. Neither platform is empirically better than the other. If you want the best of both worlds and don't mind the learning curve, perhaps give linux a try. You'll probably eventually like it better than both.

I prefer PC. A lot of my friends have Macs or "need" to get Macs and sometimes I understand as they use it for music and photography.
For my personal use, I prefer PC because I'm familiar with it and I don't see the benefits of buying a Mac. Because I don't see the added benefits the price difference alone turns me off from the Mac. I also don't feel like using a pc all day and then switching to a Mac outside of my 9-5 job.
If I did get a Mac I would probably just run Windows on it anyway.

I have a MacBook Pro, iPad 2, and an iPhone. I have never had any of the issues with the Mac as I have had with the PCs that I have owned over the years.
Get a Mac Robert!

Do you use any personal finance software? My biggest concern is not being able to use Quicken for investments.

Robert, have you looked at Mint.com for Personal Finance and Outright.com for Business Finance ?
I use both and love it…all on the web , nothing to download.

Something to consider..buying refurbished. That will help bring down the price point.

I've been Mac for 4+ years and will never go back. After Intuit screwed Mac users when Lion came out and many Quicken users–like me–found out the hard way that the latest version of Quicken of Mac would not work with Lion (I wrote a post about it–"Intuit Hates Mac Users", if you want to know more), I abandoned Quicken and now use iBank, which is designed exclusively for Mac. I have to say I like Quicken better than iBank with respect to capability, but I'm an ornery cuss who holds a grudge so I won't go back to Quicken, ever, even though Intuit has now made available a Lion-compatible version. iBank is comparatively young software, so I think/hope will get better. Also, I don't have an iPad, but I believe the company that makes iBank also makes iPad and iPhone personal finance applications which you might find useful.
In general, in my view, all the scary stories about compatibility issues, etc. designed to sustain Microsoft's monopoly are largely bunk. I've had zero problems. You can get Office for Mac software and create all the Office docs you want, no one will know the difference. And there are some great websites out there (search "PC to Mac transition" or similar) that help you make the switch.
Just my 2 cents…
