Should I change my theme to Thesis?

I'm rebuilding a new site and my choices were Thesis or Genesis framework.

For the new site, I'm using Genesis.  It's more than just a blog, though, so it was one of those things where Wordpress alone wasn't going to cut it.  The main decision point for me was that a new Thesis version is coming out soon, completely done over and I didn't want to develop on an old framework and have to convert it later.  Genesis it is.  Plus, my programming help is way better with Genesis.

MoneyMamba is on a Thesis license I bought for a client that was never used.  Had I not already owned it, I wouldn't have bought it.  Don't waste your time or money on it if it's not part of a large site that is more than a blog platform–it's really not worth it.

I almost went with Thesis, but it seems like every PF blogger uses it.  I would recommend the Genesis Framework.  If you're new to coding, Genesis is much better.  Thesis is a nightmare for anyone new to code.  Just my 2 cents!

Even better than Genesis is Headway.  Drag and drop into anything you want, with no–or very little–coding, ever, unless you want to.   If you launch a lot of sites, it beats Thesis for price.

It beats Atahualpa for speed, but a lot.  Load time is faster, and it cut down on some of my plugins.

Just how much faster is that Atahualpa?  Speed is my one complaint about the theme.  But free is nice – performance would be more nice.

According to Google Webmaster tools, my average is down 3 seconds.  Once the ATA stats fall off, it will be even better.

According to my tests, the entire homepage is loading in 4.25 seconds, and usable in under 3.   That's down from 8 or so under Atahualpa.

To be fair, Thesis and Genesis may be faster(not tested, just from what I've heard), but I'm not worried about improving on 3-4 seconds.

For usability, after a bit of practice, I can go from a freshly registered domain name to a pretty, but mostly empty site in half an hour.  That's colors, layout, header and plugins installed.

For flexibility, I've moved my gun training site to WP, including custom scheduling and registration written(poorly) in PHP.

You can seriously do anything you want with Headway.

JD at GetRichSlowly doesn't follow a theme, if you carefully scan his page view source you will realize this. If you technology savvy, learn to code in PHP it's very simple scripting language.

If you are not into programming, hire some coder, but that would cost you more money than what Thesis costs.

My Atahualpa is a 5.1 avg load time – could be worse I guess.  With some more tweaks I intended to make quite some time ago (like hard coding the subscription stuff) and removing a few more plugins I can likely drop the time.  Not sure i'd break 3 seconds though.  Our site is still slower than 75% of sites out there, so that sucks.  I should just buck up and buy a premium theme, but I so love free free free.  I'll look into the pros and cons of the other 3 mentioned here.

It's not your site that's slow, it's all the extra stuff that loads on other servers. There's not much you can really do about that aside from changing the CSS so that external items load after all other items.  I wouldn't sweat it.
