Should I stop my monthly updates?

I have posted my monthly income and blog statistics updates for almost a year now, but now that my ad business if growing, it has led to the first negativity I've really ever experienced blogging.  I really thought my business was the best of all worlds – I help people with negotiating or getting in touch with advertisers they didn't know yet, I save clients and advertisers time, and hopefully everyone ends up happy.  I also know that success usually leads to jealousy, but I honestly wasn't expecting it since everyone here and on my site has supported me from the beginning.  I do make my income now based on commission, but that also means that I only make money when my clients make money.  To my knowledge, all of my current clients are happy with my service and I seem to bring in high enough rates that either help to cover or fully cover my commission, so I am not exactly sure where the negativity is coming from, but I like to avoid drama.

To get to the point, should I continue posting my updates or are they more annoying than inspirational to you?  I started them as a way of staying transparent, but if they are seen as bragging, I could totally see how they'd be annoying.

I respect the opinions of this group and will definitely knock off my updates if the majority of you agree that they are unnecessary.  For the record, I am sorry to anyone who feels like I have been bragging.  I am happy with how things are going, but I definitely never intended to make anyone feel bad.

Crystal, I would be really sad if you stopped! Seriously – I am sorry to hear that people are communicating negative things towards you. If you choose to stop for that reason, I won't hold it against you. However, reading your monthly updates is an inspiration.

I also think there is nothing wrong with you making commission of your business. It just means that you are working harder to get money for your clients.

In short – keep up the great work!

Corey

Haters are gonna hate.   The rest of my opinion involves the haters doing anatomically improbable things to themselves with farm animals and kitchen utensils, so I'll keep it to myself.

I brag about your income to my friends.  Keep it up, or I'll have one less thing to talk about.  :)

Hey Crystal, so sorry some people are being less than nice when you are just trying to motivate people.

I personally like the updates.  However, I would consider keeping the updates to include strictly 'writing' revenue just to reduce any kind of fuss.

@Corey, thanks!  I have you down for the continue vote, lol.  Wink

@Forest, good to know.  I will definitely make it a point if I continue to physically write "This is not to brag – this is to keep my butt in gear and to let you all know what I've been up to." Laugh

@Jason, you always make me laugh!  And thanks for bragging on me!  I never have to mention how I am doing online to my friends or family anymore since my husband enjoys bragging about my blogging business too, hahaha.  It make me feel warm and fuzzy.  I cannot wait until you hit your self employment goal too and I can annoy you with emails and we can vent about bad days!!!

I was considering sticking to my blogs alone and leaving out the ad business stuff…

I find it inspiring and think it is total awesome. I look forward to it so that I can also dream about it and that gives me a good kick on my back to start fleshing out my own goals…  But you have to do what is good for you. If that means cutting down the transparency then that is what you should do.

Sorry you had to go through this. I don't see where negativity and hate stand in this whole business, as it won't help anyone, much less gain for the haters. But as Jason said, haters are gonna hate…

Thanks.  I think I am leaning towards just posting my blog revenue and leaving the ad business out of it…maybe only posting my ad business stats on HIMMB…I don't know.  I love being transparent but definitely don't want to chase people off with it or get more competition because of it.  I am on the fence right now…

Success breeds jealousy from some, just the way it is. Don't let it get to you. I didn't know there was any negativity going on, that's too bad.

What you've done so far has been to totally succeed, so I don't recommend changing anything. If anything, sharing how well you have done should attract more business and good things for you, I would think.

The people it would chase off aren't the people you want hanging around anyway.  As far as the competition goes, as long as you are advertising at all, or have raving and happy customers, somebody is going to copy you.   It's unavoidable.   Hopefully, they won't directly steal your business details to do so, but you will get copied.

I appreciate your transparency.  I know of several bloggers who leave their online income out of their descriptions of how they are able to afford to do things, and it comes across as fake.  (For instance, they say they earn all of their money through taking online surveys.  Please!!)  I think you should keep it, but you have to do what is best for you.  I wouldn't publish the negative comments though, because I like blogs to have a positive feel.

Definitely keep going with this. I know personally it's motivation for me. (I even used you as an example in a comment I posted at Sam's blog)

Ditto what Jason said. I would tell them, stop drinkin' that haterade! Wink

Those people are just jealous…. leave it at that. In a more demeaning tone, I would call them retards. I'm pretty sure most people simply use your blog updates as encouragement for themselves.

Don't change anything about your blog because of some evil trolls. Your blog is an inspiration to us all and if those evil trolls cannot handle it, oh well… too bad for them.

@Squirrelers, that's another way to look at it, thanks!  It's like advertising for my services…

@Jason, I know.  I really do.  It just sucks for me.

@Melissa, thanks for the vote of confidence.  And yes, I would not allow super negative comments on my site, but so far that hasn't been much of an issue.  I truly am blessed with awesome commenters – supportive and generally positive to others.

@FSYA, I love that term – "haterade".  Thanks for the smile!

@Tony, either jealous or annoyed…either way, I wanted to make sure it wasn't a group feeling.  It's never good to be oblivious.

Way to dig into the problem, but I don't think you'll get any negativity from this group.  Most of us have known you for awhile.  Warm, genuine, passionate, and hard working.  You deserve all your success.  Haters can't handle it and just want to tear others down because they are insecure.  So be it.  Keep doing what you do, you rock! Cool
