I figured I would come in here and spread a little peer pressure! Is anyone else planning on a sitewide blackout to coincide with the 'nerd version' of the SOPA hearings? For a little back-story, Reddit is going to enforce a blackout (on their 2 billion unique visitor a month site) from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM on January 18th.
Sure, we might only be reaching a few hundred people a day, but we have influence… the people we reach through Yakezie generally have blogs of their own.
For further reading, see the Stanford Law Review for an anti-SOPA/PIPA piece. Or, check out what's already been said in hearings.
Pitching in? Staying neutral? Organizing a SOPA/PIPA solidarity day? I'm interested in all thoughts!

Wouldn't it be better to put up some really great content on that day since all of those people will be looking for something else on the net? You could post it to reddit early that morning before the blackout and give those people a chance to discover your blog. Not that I would expect to see a tremendous response, but isn't it smarter to go against the gain and take advantage of the situation rather than follow along with what others are doing?

Well, falling where I do on this issue I don't want to cross the so-called digital-picket line, haha. I'm going for moral authority… and I doubt I have any 'questionable' material on my site.
By no means am I suggesting doing this in a vacuum – certainly express your issues with the bills to your representatives. It's just another outlet for me to try to have an impact – however small.

I would consider participating in the blackout, but I'm not really sure how with blogger.

I posted a small tidbit on financial god about SOPA just recently. I'm not sure what I will do on blackout day. I think I will go for a special post.

My sites will be all down with a letter in their place explaining why and giving a link to help people find the proper contact for their calls and letters.

I'm still undecided about going dark, have a post with the SOPA video embedded with all the important links and may block out the site title with the americancensorship.org "stop censorship" link banner.
I also came across a Stop SOPA plugin, that puts a ribbon in the upper right hand corner of your site for those who want to support the cause with a less intrusive, easy to install solution.
For anyone looking for more info, links, etc on SOPA, MattCutts.com has a huge offering to help out.

I just sent a letter to my Senator.
The more I understand about the bill, the more I am concerned. It seems unnecessarily broad and poses significant danger to webmasters, among other things. I can’t be a fan of it for those reasons. They seriously need to remove the pork from this bill or don’t pass it at all.

I'm redirecting the home page to a simple html page with a video and the infographic from americancensorship.org. It will look like this.
This will be across all of my sites.
The infographic is here if you need something to use. http://americancensorship.org/…..aphic.html

What are you guys doing to redirect? I think I'll modify the .htaccess to do a temporary redirect on every request to a single page that will have some info about SOPA.

I think I will try the plugin for that day. I want to show my support but I'm afraid I'll make my blog explode if I try to do anything fancy!

I was going to do the htaccess, IIW, but now that there's a plugin? I'm taking the lazy way out, haha. I'll probably do a small amount of text and some links… just enough that people can decide to research further without a massive wall of text.
