SOPA/PIPA – Who's Blacking Out Their Sites?

If you're running a theme that has any kind of hook system(atahualpa, genesis, headway, thesis, etc), you should be able to get away with just adding this:

<script type="text/javascript" src="//js.sopablackout.org/sopablackout.js"></script>

In headway, put it in the "Before everything" easy hook and you're done.

Be careful with .htaccess redirects.  Make sure it's a 302, so you're not telling Google to give away your link juice permanently.

Looks like Cantor pulled the bill, so no need to black it out quite yet…

I like the plugin idea, too! I am going to check that out. Might be less risky than mucking around in the .htaccess

I'm doing the plugin on my sites!  I don't have time to censor myself let alone commenters. And I hate this whole big brother idea.  I'm not in Cuba, I'm in America!

I'm digging my way out of some serious debt at

Guys, if you decided to check the checkboxes like I did, just ensure they are still checked after saving the settings. It took two times for me.

My site will be SOPA-only tomorrow. :)

I found a plugin that does this while sending a 503 message to the search engines, which is the Google-friendly way to do it: http://wordpress.org/extend/pl…..s/go-dark/

My site is back up after updating the plugin! It was using the wrong timezone or something. But, it should be down again tomorrow. :)

This plugin is using 307 temporary redirects for anyone curious.

I didn't do a plugin but set up a 302 to a simple html. I'll just have to manually take it down tonight. I think it looks pretty snazzy Smile

I just modified my banner. Showing the message and not blocking traffic. Today is a special day for me where I already have broken biggest traffic record at around 11:30, long day still to go. Powered by a simple dollar round up inclusion. I can't afford to block site today.

BFS is down.  I figure the loss in traffic is worth it if even one person contacts their congressman.

Mine is down today as well. I used the stop SOPA plugin. I wanted to create a page with the video and infographics from the American censorship site, but didn't get time to do that. So plugin it it…
