So this may seem like a dumb question.

You know how everyone gets a certain amount of spam comments? When you get those comments, do the spam visitors count in your traffic count?

Ie, if Mr.Blogger got 180 spam comments in a day, and his traffic was 1,000 site visits, would that 1,000 include the 180 spam commentors as visitors? Do spammers even visit your site? I can't see a way around that but I'm not sure.

Something I've been curious about. I have no idea how spammers work.

Daisy, the answer is yes and no. Mostly no. Yes, some spammers visit your site, but majority of them don't. There are softwares that scrape the posts/sites that are relevant to the keyword they are trying to rank and have comments with slightly varying sentences using regular expressions like "I [love|dig|appreciate|heart] the [information|site layout|argument] you have here" and with different permutations of those words the software sends out the comments with the keywords they want. They are counting of the success by volume. If they send out 10000 of those, and 99% of them are rejected, there are still 100 back links that are successful. Want to know the name of the software that do this Wink ?

I was wondering about this myself. In the beginning it was a mystery to me as to where they were even coming from. Now, I get it. Thanks Daisy and Suba.
