Hey everyone,
Recently, I've got a ton of spam comments like 400-500/day. Akismet and GASP screen 99% of them out and I just click empty spam folder. But I know there are one or two legit comments that get thrown in there once in a while and I can't unspam them anymore. There are just too many spam comments to go through. Any idea here?
Do you see more spam comments lately?

I've seen quite a few more lately as well, a huge increase lately. I can relate. Good news is that almost all are getting captured, the rare ones that get through get zapped.

I've noticed the same thing in the last week or two. I used to try to go through every other day or so to rescue the legit comments and now there's so many that I just can't keep up anymore. I've had a couple get through recently but spam filter catches most.

I had a similar problem for months. It was a lot of daily work I sure didn't want to do (manually reviewing page after page of comments).
I tried a plugin called Invisible Captcha. On top of using GASP and Bad Behaviour this plugin eliminated the spam comments. Problem seems to be solved.
Anyone know if I still need to use BB or GASP?

400-500/day? Oh my word…I'm only getting about a tenth of that so I'm still able to go through them rather quickly. I'm using the Antispam Bee plugin which has worked really well for me.

I gave up going through them, and just delete the spam, there is too much of it. But lately akismet hasn't screened about a dozen spam comments a day which was not happening before. I upgraded to the last version but it's not enough. Generally first time legit commenters who are sent to spam have a picture, instead of a grey shadow profile avatar so you can screen quickly.

Great advice Pauline – a very quick way to screen – thanks.
In case anyone else didn't know, you can also change the number of comments shown on the screen to 999 by going into screen options in the top right hand corner. This will save you a lot of time if screening the posts by avatar as Pauline suggests…
