Sponsored post for a product I use, but haven't been asked by advertiser to write about

So I recently got accepted through flexoffers to put up and ad. This product is something I use daily to help me budget, and I would like to point my readers to use this product for their budgets as well. it would tie in really well with my budgeting basics series. I was thinking of writing a quick "how to use" post on the product and maybe show some screenshots and link to a youtube video of how to use it.

It's a free product, and I would disclose that I get a commission for those that sign up using my link.

I guess my questions is: Am I missing anything?

I don't know a lot about advertising on my blog, and I don't want to break the law or anything. I know that some advertisers contact bloggers directly to write sponsored posts with additional incentive, but honestly, I use this product so I don't mind writing about it as a way to help my readers get on a budget and start tracking their income/expenses.

Thanks for your help everyone! :)

That is the best strategy to use, especially if you believe in it and use it regularly.  It is the same strategy that Pat Flynn uses on his site.

I usually just put at the bottom of my posts with affiliate links, "This post contains affiliate links which help support Mom's Plans."  Then I also have a disclosure policy.  Do this and you should be fine.

Yes its always good to be straight and upfront with these things. It's good that you only recommend products you have actually used. A good blog aims to build trust with its readers, and you will do with this approach. People can smell when you are just trying to extract as much cash as possible from them, and will shy away from you. An honest review that points them towards a useful resource that helps them is great, whether you are making money from it or not. Smile

Be upfront and make sure your site has a disclosure policy mentioning the FCC and blah blah…here is a good resource for making one if you haven't yet.
