I just heard the news and as a fan of Apple, I had to write a post. Please check it out and weigh in. Do you think Apple will survive without him?

I think their stock price will take a big hit initially… As for the success of the company afterwards, who knows… I've seen quite a few companies where the CEO left and it was a game changer for the company. Dell (but it's doing good know that Michael Dell is back), Bank of America, etc… Heck even Microsoft isn't doing as well without Bill Gates running the show…

Apple didn't do so well the last time he left. I would sell too if I have any AAPL.

5-7% reduction in share price of Apple represents a loss of approximately $15-18 billion in market cap. Ouch
I would have thought it would bounce back a bit though

If I had some extra money to invest, I would buy $AAPL.
We are forgetting that Steve was on medical leave since the last several months anyway.
Also, he has already been elected as a chairman of the Apple Board. So if things start going really wrong, he can always intervene and come back as CEO (if his health permits, of course), just like Michael Dell.
I also think, Steve must have made sure that they have products/services lined up for many years to come.

Yeah that is the news that is coming out, that he already has years planned in advanced for products, etc.
@Justin, I didn't know either until my sister told me right before I was about to go to bed. I stayed up writing a post after being in such shock!
@retireby40 and @Jon the markets open in just a few minutes and I am expecting a sell off as well.
It's just so crazy even though they say it was planned.

My thinking is that Apple will be fine, but it still seem like we lost a giant last night.
I have to give a full disclaimer though- we are a little Apple crazy in this house. The fam even named our betta fish, "Stevie"….sigh.

If we never knew of Jobs' health problems and he suddenly stepped down then maybe a little panic. But you can't tell me he's been a full-time CEO the past couple of years anyway. Heck, it's probably just a title change, Cook's probably been running the show anyway.
Add to that there is supposed to be a major MacPro update (can't wait) and Sprint will be getting the iPhone as well as there being an iPhone update (including possibly a cheaper version) and I think their revenue has plenty of room to grow.

Nix the growth, take the cash off the market cap and there's so much value there. Throw the growth in and AAPL is probably one of the most reasonably priced stocks on Wall St.

I heard that Apple's product launches are pretty much set for the next few years. My thoughts would involve some concern about innovation going forward, as Jobs has hit some home runs through his time at Apple. He also, from what I understand, made a ton of money on Pixar. He's clearly one of the iconic businesspersons of the last 50 years.
That said, while Apple suffered when Jobs left the company for the first time, he hasn't always hit home runs. Didn't he launch a few products that didn't take off (the "Lisa", or something like that?). He also had another startup that didn't do so well from what I understand. Anyway, I'm thinking that his departure may not be a good thing, but hasn't Walt Disney succeeded for decades after he departed? Same with McDonalds and Ray Kroc.
