Lately, I have been finding my comments are getting blocked from site that utilize StopForumSpam.com or the AVH Frst Defense Against Spam plug in (which utilized StopForumSpam.com).
I did some research and discovered a coworker has been listed with the Stop Forum Spam list. I work for a large company – about 25,000 employees across the country and 2,500 of them based in the Home Office where I work. Obviously, many of us share the same IP. The woman who is listed as a spammer is a Director in our company, very well respected in the industry, and someone I highly doubt has ever 'spammed' anyone!!! But regardless, now I am being blocked from commenting on many sites (Yakezie Members, included) because we share the same IP.
Grrrr!!!!!!
I looked into Stop Forum Spam and can't seem to find any way to get my IP removed from their directory.
Grrrr!!!!!!!
Any advice? For those of you who use Stop Forum Spam or AVH, please know you are losing legitimate commenters due to innocent people being black listed!

Sorry to hear you are running into issues. I have AVH but only two bloggers have emailed me about being blocked and I have unblocked them. I guess those who don't email me could be having an issue. Those of youwho also use AVH, what is your suggestions for this? Should I disable AVH so I don't block people I don't know about?

I've been running AVH (and am one of the ones SS is having issues with) and SS is the second person to email me with issues on the commenting side. Of the hundreds of comments I've received since I started running AVH in February, only having two is a pretty small %. Are there others who aren't taking the time to send an email? Probably. But, in the last three months, AVH has stopped over 6000 spam comments a month. To me, not having to go through those 6000 comments each month is well worth the few false positives.
By the way, the easiest way to overcome the issue that SS was having on a site is to get the IP address of the commenter, and add it to the AVH local white list. That fixes it on your site, but not others. If the commenter contacts the Stop Forum Spam folks, they can start whatever procedure they use for removing the IP from their global list.

Those statistics do make me rethink the usefullness of Stop Forum Spam. But as I am the one being picked on I think I will still send dirty looks their way! LOL! Emailing the blog owners has been the only way I have been able to get unblocked, and it works for me, so I guess I will keep doing it. In the meantime, if anyone knows how to get removed from Stop Forum Spam's list, please let me know!

This sort of thing is really annoying and reminds me of the grief I still have with Akismet…
For those running the forums, maybe they can try Bad Behavior and perhaps a captcha for new users?

Well, from what I understand, Bad Behavior isn't being updated anymore, so it might stop working at some point. I've used it on a couple of other sites, and while it did seem to work well, I've never found anything that worked like AVH does. I could install a captcha, but then it's one more field that every commenter would have to fill in. And it both cases, you're still likely to have a few false positives now and again.
