Howdy Folks,
Curious to know how many of you post 5X a week of your own writing (not ghost or staff writing)? If you do, what is your average length of article and pageviews a day if you care to share?
How many of you post 5X or more a week, including staff writing?
I've come to realize that my backlog of posts is getting unwieldy and perhaps it would be beneficial to start posting more than 3.5X a week. I used to believe in burnout at 5X a week, but I've kept up my writing frequency for 3 consecutive years now so Im no longer concerned.
Thx,
Sam

I currently do 5 days a week, up from 3 days a week.
I have staff writers 2 days a week, and I write the other 3 days a week.
My average post length is between 300-600 words. I've found my pageviews to increase with my more frequent writing.

Between two separate blogs, I do 5 posts per week. 3 on EA and 2 on If You Can Read… Lately, there have been a lot of guest posts, but March-April was a pretty full plate for me. As March progresses, it should return to me writing 95% of the posts.

I post nearly everyday. I need to work on scheduling posts in advance though.

I am lucky to blog with my wife, which cuts the work in half.
So we each try to post 2 "real" posts for week, for a total of 4..
..With 1-2 "fluff" posts on the weekend (roundups, carnivals, site updates, etc)
We really don't do much in the way of guest posts..
Altho I would be open to it, if it was helping out a Yakezie friend's blog..

I've been posting three times per week, but have recently decided to up it to 4 per week.
I think new bloggers are better served posting a few times per week and spending the other time commenting, networking, etc. Once you have established yourself, a 5 per week (every weekday) would probably work great.
My goal is to have three solid posts (avg 800 words) per week – Mon, Weds, Friday, and move my Best Of series to the weekend.
I like to give these posts a day to marinate and draw readers because I put a lot of work into them.
If I were doing list posts or aggregating news I wouldn't care about posting every day.
Sam: I think you could work one more in there per week if you wanted to. There are times when I look at my feed reader to see if you have a new post, so I know there are others.

For my blogs (Couple Money and My Financial Reviews) I've been averaging 6 posts a week between them. My goal now is to keep the same pace, but write more whale posts.

I used to but work's been kicking my ass lately (like REALLY kicking it) so I've been down to 2-3 for a little while. I enjoyed 5 days a week a lot and think I'll eventually get back to it. My traffic has dropped by about 20% or so since the drop.

I had in the past but came down to 3 times per week. Tried 4 times again lately with mixed results. Traffic for me was better at 3 times, but post quality went up with fewer posts.

Thanks for your thoughts so far guys. Here's the flip side of the question:
How many posts would you like to read by your favorite blogger(s) a week? We all only have so much time. Perhaps if your favorite blogger posted 5X a week from less, the gains would be OUTSIZED b/c they would dominate the readership base eg super elastic demand curve. I'd actually like to read content from my favorite site everyday.
I'd like to read more Whale Posts as well. But writing them is hard to do, hence they don't appear often. It's also easy to think one is writing a whale-type post, and to just be overly verbose like I wrote w/ one of my recent posts on structured products.

I have to agree with you Sam. For the blogs that I really like to read, I would like to read 4-5 posts a week (Friday's are usually different). Quality has to stay high though. I think the ideal situation is to always leave them wanting more…
Another thought is that if you are writing 1-2k word posts 5x a week, that would be too much for me. I think I could handle five 1k word posts on a blog I really enjoy within a week's time – nothing more.
Ideally, I would like to move up to a Mon-Friday posting schedule… but I just don't have the time. I will be moving to a Mon-Wed-Fri instead of my Tues-thurs (on my main site). If I dropped several of my other projects, I could probably do it 5x week on 20's, but my experience has been that it is better to diversify. I know growth is probably slower, but it has its benefits to grow 3-4 blogs at the same time, even if it is slower. :)

@Sam
I'm all for writing a whale post, but not only do they take a lot of time, they also need to be given a fair chance to sink in by giving the post ample room to gauge readers and start an exciting commentary. Typically whale posts require to be at the fore front of the blog ideally for 2 days.
That works out to technically 3 posts per week, the third post would be usually somewhat rushed due to Weekend Blog Love flap post, and generally the weekend traffic is nowhere near as M-T, Fridays are always a toss up.

I only have one blog and post five days a week. Because I want to grow my community and have people come back daily, I've set off on a structured course:
- Monday: Podcast (not sure if this counts as a post, but it's content)
- Tuesday/Wednesday: Advisory, straight-forward posts on personal finance topics, 101-style.
- Thursday: Cuppa Joe discussion – my opinion on any topic (tomorrow = bullshit Spirit bag fee)
- Friday: Blog Post of the Week! – humor/roundup
I hope my audience is learning to expect something daily.
If OG or I post on weekends, they're sponsored posts. No sponsored stuff on weekdays.
As for blogs I like to read? More = better. I enjoy a post every weekday. If I know someone is posting more often, I'll come back more. I take the weekends off and read zip.

I write 2-3 posts per week. I love to write more frequently, but it's hard to get time to write additional articles. My articles are normally 700-1000 words. I never use any ghost writers. I am getting close to 100K Alexa, and traffic is still growing (over 10K pageviews — nothing compare to what Sam has :)). I am having fun so far. My focus is on to write thought provoking content.

I write more than 5 posts. 4 on OCAAT and 2 -3 on FPR. All my posts are 800 words plus. All self-written and my English is not so strong, I need to spend enormous time on writing and editing.
Page views at OCAAT is 32,000 per month and at FPR, it is 2,500 per month at the moment.

I do 4 posts a week that usually vary between 400-700 words or so. On Friday's I do a smaller post and will include a round up.

I do anywhere between 5-6 times/week. 2 of them are usually fluff posts. Page views largely depends on the day – I've increased my visitors by 150% every month so that wouldn't be a good predictor but I find that the more I post the more traffic I get.
I don't worry about how many words are in my posts – whatever feels right. Today is a 500+ word post, sometimes they're 1000+ words. I REALLY like reading shorter posts on my favorite bloggers – longer posts are usually better if they're a personal story or something. For my very fave bloggers, I would read 7 posts/week!

I do — though one of them is "things that caught my eye" — maybe it's because I'm new, but I feel like I have a lot to say, and the blog is my forum, so for now, I'm happy to keep it up. Who knows, though, maybe the well will dry up? I like reading quality blog posts — whether they occur daily or less frequently. I am not a huge fan of "well I don't know what to say so I'll talk about x, y, z" posts, though they are rare in this sphere.

I've never written 5 posts a week, and I never will. I think it's nearly impossible to generate 5 solid posts a week with only one author. I've seen very few bloggers that are able do that.
As a reader, I'm not sure I would read a blog 5 times a week. The posts would have to be pretty amazing. I much prefer bloggers that post 2-3 times a week, but have longer and more interesting posts because they opt for a less frequent schedule.
