I'm trying to reduce the number of plug-ins on Financial Samurai and Yakezie to minimize the load on the server. I'm trying to figure out whether there is some coding issue, spike in traffic, or what that is causing my Inmotion dedicated server to go down recently.
Financial Samurai is down to 17 plug-ins.
Yakezie is at 25 now. There are so many important features on Yakezie.com that it may be hard to cut down further.
Curious to know how many you guys have, and what are the most intensive MySQL plug-ins you are aware of? Yet Another Related Post (YARP), for example is said to be one that sucks up a lot energy.
Thx,
Sam

Man, I have 31 active ones right now. I'm really looking to minimize myself, and will over the next few weeks as I do some upgrades.
My most intensive plugin is OIO Publisher…good thing it doesn't run too often!

I have 37 active plugins. Guess that's a lot… And, I have no idea how to tell you what my most intensive MySQL plug-ins are.

I've got 26. Can't really say that I would want to get rid of any of them (maybe 1 more) since almost all have something to do with the functionality rather than appearance. Then again, I really don't know that much, so a new theme could always provide most of what the plug-ins already do

Yeah, my theme is reallllllly old. That may be why I use so many plug-ins.

This was asked mid Oct in the Help Desk forum Sam – some good information and numbers here: http://yakezie.com/forums/help…..installed/
I am over 30 but I just don't see how to reduce below 25.

I have 47. It's nuts but I don't really see that I can get rid of any.

In the past the biggest thing that has led to my server going down is just mysql queries being made too quickly. I have had the site go down during traffic surges with all plugins turned off until I installed w3cache and AmazonS3 but I think Yakezie already has these running?

SPF, cool, just checked out the other thread.
Forest – Yeah, those plugins are installed.
I'm going to update my theme on FS in 2012. Seems like Thesis is the way to go?

I'm moving to Thesis and will be consolidating some plugins. I love it on my niche sites, and I'm getting some help to make it look just like my current theme.

I have 14 right now, but my site is still slooowwww…
That's the main reason why I want to move to Thesis at some point.

I have 26 active plugins. I could probably dump and combine a few, particularly if I could get W3 cache to work. Instead I use Total Cache plus a Minify plugin.
I also have a few security plugins that add to it, but they run light in the background.

I love Thesis and use it on all of my sites (have an affiliate link for that too! http://www.narrowbridge.net/resources/). I would also take a look at Genesis. A lot of people have been happy with that lately.

I have 59 plugins installed on KNS Financial and 40 on Fat Guy Skinny Wallet! I know nothing about code, so many of those are necessary.

I have 12 installed and all activated right now, but hoping to take it down to 9. Maybe I should be doing more? Even with this relatively low number my site is not setting any speed records.

I've got 26 active. I tend to collect them like bad pennies, and I like to go through and delete some about once a quarter or so.

Dang Khaleef, 59 is a lot! Do you have one that does your laundry and clean the house or something?! :)

Folks who have close to 10, how are you doing that? 2 security plugin, one back up, 1 spam and 1 cache plugin itself brings close to half of what you have. How do you manage with just 10 plugins?

Hunter,
Try downloading and installing YSlow. You might want to use gzip compression on your site and Content Delivery Network (CDN) for the 77 static components. To use CDN for static components – run YSlow and select "Use a Content Delivery Network" tab. All you have to do is click on the Add as CDN buttons. For the gzip you will need to make sure it is enabled in your Cache Plugin.
Let me know if you have questions,
Paul

I just checked and I'm in the low 30's, ouch!
But I don't see getting rid of any of them.
Right now WP-SpamFree and Uprev are two that seem slow to load.
I have 14 right now, but my site is still slooowwww…

Do you know what it is that is slowing up your site exactly? Not that Thesis isn't a great option (it's what I use) but you should try to see what it is that is slowing things up to determine if another theme will speed you up.
There are a lot of factors that could be making a site slow.
