I've noticed a box of tags on several blogs with varied font sizes. I'm assuming this is to target keywords in search engines. Is this something to consider? How beneficial is it?

I think it might've been more beneficial before google started cracking down on duplicate content.  These days a lot of people actually block the tag pages from search engines to avoid that duplicate content from getting indexed.

Depending on the tags you use, it might be a good way for visitors to find things.  It does at least reinforce your blog's theme across all pages.

It also depends on how good the tags you use are.  You could always try installing that widget and see how people like it.

I was actually under the impression that the tag cloud was slowly going away. It seems to mostly be on smaller blogs.

Of course, the bigger the font, the more used the tag. But my feeling is that if a tag is big enough to make an impression, it would probably be better used as a catagory.

I do have the tag cloud installed, but I originally did it to have something in my sidebar. As I gradually collect things in my sidebar, I see less and less utility for the tag cloud.

I'm looking for editors, beta-readers, and some demographic research for my upcoming novel, Once Upon a Saturn Moon. If you like reading soft sci-fi thrillers, maybe with a touch of romance thrown in, you can find more information at http://seampublishing.com/once…..aturn-moon

By the way, I don't think I've ever actually clicked on a tag cloud to navigate any site.  Some people may use them, but to me they just add a bunch of clutter.  You may just be better off trying to use relevant keywords in your posts & post titles to establish blog theme.  For the amount of space a tag cloud takes up, there are probably much better uses.

I use tags so Google knows post keywords, but I do not have a tag cloud. Just a waste of space if you ask me.
