Good Morning!

For the 2^nd year in a row in July 2012, MyPersonalFinanceJourney.com will be hosting the Tour de Personal Finance. The Tour de Personal Finance is a month-long Tour de France-themed personal finance-blogging competition.

I could really use you all's help to continue the success of this event by submitting your best posts from the past year by June 24th. Just email the info below to Jacob@mypersonalfinancejourney.com

• Name and URL of blog.
• URL and title of your best article from last 12 months.
• A concise 2-5 sentence description of the post (this will be posted on each stage's announcement, so really SELL why your post is awesome and should win!).
• The month and year in which you started blogging (will be used in conjunction with final blog post placing to determine White Jersey winner).

Briefly, the way the Tour de PF works is as follows:

• Bloggers submit their best posts from the last 12 months. Posts are paired off in to groups of two randomly.
• Each day (coinciding with the occurrence of the Tour de France), the two posts compete against each other in “stages” posted on My Personal Finance Journey to determine which post readers vote as the top one. The winner of each stage will move on to the next round, until the final winner (Yellow Jersey) is crowned!
• Other winners will include a White Jersey (best placed youngest blog), Green Jersey, and Polka-Dot Jersey as well, each having a slightly dorky personal finance twist to the jerseys awarded during the Tour de France.

Some exciting new changes for this year’s Tour:

1. Last year, there were 48 different personal finance blogs/articles that participated. For the 2012 event, I am targeting to have 64 different blogs/articles competing.
2. I will be reserving the reader portion of my 10% monthly blog income give back event for both June and July as prize money to the Yellow Jersey winner (~$100). The Yellow Jersey winner will also select a charity of their choice to receive the charity portion of the 10% monthly blog income give back (~$100).
3. Lastly, in the 2012 event, I have actively been seeking out platinum, gold, silver, and bronze sponsorships from various companies and advertising representatives in the PF realm. I plan to donate half (50%) of all sponsorship proceeds to a charity selected by the overall competition winner (Yellow Jersey). I’ve gotten a couple sponsors interested already, but if you have a close relationship with any ad reps or company contacts that would be interested in teaming up to sponsor this event, please email me and I can send you the sponsorship/media kit I’ve put together. As an incentive for connecting the event with sponsors, I’ll give you 25% of any sponsorship that is realized as a result of your referral.

The first intermediate sprint of the day is clearly a no-brainer. The Checkbook story is FAR superior to the piece on nest egg fees. 

We all know that nest egg fees will kill a portfolio, but who knew the end to the checkbook story?

Great idea for a contest and well implemented. Hope everyone votes early and often.
