Although folks with debt aren't my target audience, I'm sure some of my readers do have debt.  At the very least, some of them may have conquered debt and be able to share stories or comments.  I'll try the survey, but count me in too.

I'm loving the attention this thread is getting and it's not even October yet.   #Debtmovement is going to be HUGE.

Great idea! I definitely have been toying around with the idea of surveying my readers to understand them better so thanks for the link. Also, my husband and I paid off $25,000 in non-mortgage debt in a little over a year last (ended Sept.2010) so we have experience.

I can potentially get some exposure for your project/community through front page on the chronicle (usually stuff I write goes there on Monday and wednesdays) and if I write something good enough, it can be syndicated on business insider (editors pick what they want from my site.) Anyway, as it firms up I would be happy to try.

Thank so much Amanda!

And your story about paying off debt are definitely ones that I want to feature in this debt movement.  I'm thinking of creating a template interview for all bloggers/interested parties that had debt and were able to pay it off.  To demonstrate to other that it can be done.

Loving this….Laugh

Update:  If you have an AWESOME Debt Pay off story, please contact Ben from Money Smart Life.  Email:  ben@moneysmartlife.com.

He's currently putting together a  book for Amazon Kindle where he shares some uplifting stories of people that paid off some big chunks of debt.

He's doing this to purely support The Debt Movement – Awesome!.

We've got some good stories thus far, but could definitely use a few more.

Hi Jeff, I heard about this from Jason at Work Save Live. We are in the middle of a huge debt payoff, and just finished paying off over $30K in credit card debt. I work in health care, so could also help people who don't understand medical bills or insurance issues.

Check out the Eyes on the Dollar site at http://eyeonthedollar.com/

Done!  If you can email me to remind me.  I'm starting to get scattered on all who's involved.   Too much to plan!  Haha….

Also, if you want to be feature on the Debt Movement site when it goes live, please fill out this Debt Movement Spotlight Survey.  This goes for anyone that has a compelling debt story.

Hi Jeff,

I am in the UK so the first two categories of debt you mentioned don't apply (well, substantial student debt doesn't apply yet). I will have to focus on CC debt and loans for different consumer items (these may be rather large).

How about it?

Hi, Jeff,

I'm a little late joining the party, but I love that your idea has the potential to influence so many people's lives for the better. I'm totally in! I could perhaps share some practical ways to stop spending money and use the saved cash to more quickly pay down debt. Happy Simple Living sponsors a 31-day break from nonessential spending each January called the January Money Diet, and I'd be happy to write about the Debt Movement during the month and support the group's activities.

If you have personal examples, that would be great.  Love to check it out.

Eliza,

That sounds great! Would your prefer to post something live before your January Money Diet or during?  I'm definitely help promote your money diet.   The first week of January is already booked on the blog.  Maybe right before the New Year?

One other thing, if you plan on supporting the Debt Movement in someway (guest posts, writing about it, sharing it on social media), I want to make sure you get featured on the blog.    I need the following:

  • 90px by 64px image
  • Name as you would like it to read
  • Site you want a link to

Just email me the above and I'll get you added to the site.  Laugh
