Hi guys,
I'm new here but I have an Entrepreneur and Personal Finance focused blog at Small Business Dreams, which is running the Thesis theme on Wordpress. I'm looking to get a site redesign from someone familiar with building on top of Thesis, and was wondering if any of you had some recommendations? I'm looking to spend under $1,000.
Also, I've been blogging for about 6 months now, and although I know the site looks pretty boring right now, I am open to any all feedback on things I should incorporate or lose on the blog. Please check it out and feel free to let me know if you see anything about my writing or formatting that could use help as well!
Thanks.

It really boils down to "Why Thesis?"
The benefit of thesis, IMO, isn't even the SEO as much as it is the custom sidebars/page structure. Those features make coding into Thesis difficult, time consuming, and ultimately expensive.
You would have to really cut corners to do a site in Thesis for less than $1000. A full site design and conversion to basic wordpress, though, would set you back far less than that. CodeMyConcept takes PSD files and turns them into wordpress for $119. That's cheap as it gets for their level of quality. That leaves you with $880 to spend on a design, which would probably be a killer design.
Coding to Thesis would probably start at $600 (bare minimum…guy you find on Craigslist) and grow considerably from there. That doesn't leave you much for a design, especially not if you expect a lot of functionality.

What are you looking to do with Thesis? From very basic to reasonably standard design (logo, custom headers, multi column footers, some coding) I think it should be easy to do in your price. If you are going to code a LOT and have a really unique website then you might have to shell out more. I have thesis, but I did my own customization (I do have php knowledge, not sure if that helped). Mine is pretty standard though. If you want to do a standard design shoot me an email, I can help you with that. A full professional redesign, someone might have some recommendation. I know penny (thesavedquarter.com) did her thesis customization with someone.
Start with deciding what you want and how you want your site to look like? What is more important – usability, flash, very unique…

Thanks guys. I'm not looking for a ton of customization or anything. The site basically has all the functionality that I need. I just want it to look more professional and get a logo/header designed. I don't have a header right now (other than default), and my sidebars are sloppy. I don't see anything else I would really need done…

Hi Chris, I don't think you need a site redesign in the coding sense of it but you are looking for graphic designers who can add some more customization to your brand. I am using a fellow blogging couple who also do some great design work. They are working on custom header, logo, social media buttons and badges for one of my sites http://www.travelblogchallenge.com They have not completed it yet, but if you have time you can check it now and then again when it is done to see if you like their work.
You you can find them here: http://www.hopandjaunt.com/

You might check out the Thesis forums to find a designer. Let us know where you net out – I also run Thesis and would like to have some professional help at some point.

I second http://www.emptycabinmedia.com if you're looking for some advanced thesis work, like a custom look/etc. If you're looking mainly for a header/favicon or other small changes, I do some design work on the side, mainly for Thesis users. You can see my portfolio at http://www.logosforwebsites.com

how about searching craigslist for a local designer/developer who you can meet with and personally discuss your blog's direction? i have found a lot of talent on CL for short term gigs of this nature
