Anyone who's tried  a combination of these top selling themes? What's your opinion and what made you decide to go with you chose?

Even if you've used just one of these themes, opinions are welcome! Smile

I use Thesis and love it ( I have the developer license)!  It's SOOO much better than the free theme I was using years ago.  The amount of info as well as the forums for Thesis really make buying the theme a great value.

That said, I bought the theme a while back.  I hear there's a Thesis 2.0 in the works that I'm sure will be great.  But I've also heard great things about Genesis.  Were I looking for a theme today I would consider Genesis as well.

Key is, if you are going to pay for a theme, understand what it offers you and what it will take to make the theme yours on your site (i.e. modify it how you like it).

Check out some sites you love and see what they use.

I also have a Thesis developers license and use it across all of my sites. It is a little overwhelming when you install it for the first time, but I have been thrilled. If I were doing it again today, like Glen, I would also consider Genesis as I have heard good things.

If you do decide to get Thesis, and you are feeling generous, I have an affiliate link at http://www.narrowbridge.net/resources/.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Glen!  One thing I noticed with Thesis that I haven't found in other popular themes is the typography.  They are excellent out of the box.

This is something that is very difficult to get right in my opinion and Thesis does a beautiful job with the typography.

Thanks Eric!  I've read reviews and looked at videos of Thesis setup and I definitely like what I see. But I'm curious why you would choose Genesis if you were to pick one today.  Is there something that this theme does better than Thesis?

From my understanding, Headway seems to have taken a different approach with drag and drop and instant previews.  But Genesis and Thesis seems to offer pretty much the same from what I see.

I am a HUGE fan of headway and they actually just updated to 3.0 with drag and drop going on but I haven't had a real chance to play with it.

Put my vote down for Headway (affiliate link). I've acquired a couple sites that had Thesis installed and found it to be a little overrun with dropdown options, so now I always convert the themes over to Headway. In one evening I can create a layout that perfectly mirrors the Thesis theme. Then going forward I get to benefit from an easy to edit theme (I like to evolve my sites with subtle tweaks) and I find the SEO box in the Post screen to be so much nicer too.

Thanks for the heads up!  I've been waiting to see their pricing for version 3.0.  I see they've updated their home page.  Do let us know what you think of the theme once you get a chance to play with the new version.

Thanks Tom!  From the videos I was blown away by the ease of use, but honestly didn't know anyone who actually had experience using Headway till I read yours and Evan post above!

Did you get a chance to play with version 3?

I have Headway and love it! They just released Headway 3, which looks even better than before. I've only played around with it for a few minutes, but it seems awesome (it's not on Money Spruce yet). For example, they have an easy 404 designer. How cool is that?!

I've never used Thesis, but Headway requires literally no coding. It's truly "drag and drop" and the Visual Editor is great for that.

I also feel like Headway sites tend to blend in a little better (I can spot the Thesis Nav Bar really easily on most sites unless they change it).

Headway support has been fantastic at solving my problems, too. They get back to me within hours and always seem to figure out my poorly-worded questions Smile

I don't think you'll be disappointed with Headway. Feel free to fire away with any more questions.

I'm sporting Thesis right now. I came over from Tumblr so obviously I'm going to be amazed by the customization. I still haven't had a ton of time to play around with it, but I've been extremely pleased with what I HAVE changed.

I use Headway, thanks to live real now. Jason installed it for me and I haven't played around with it, but it looks beautiful.

I'm a non techie so I'm a bit afraid to try anything. Does anyone know if there's a way to play with it without touching my own site. I don't want to mess anything up.

I haven't tried version 3 yet, they said it's not upgradeable from the old version for another week. Even then, I won't be in a hurry to update until I want to make a major change. More likely I'll try the new version when I create another site.

Speaking of how different sites under Headway can look, this is probably the best example yet that I've designed… Create Hype

Hi Tom, I'll have to check out the videos when I have a second. I loved the HYPE site, and even signed up for the newsletter :)

Barb, we can build a separate wordpress installation in a subfolder for you, just as a playground.

Using thesis right now – the theme isnt something that i'd like to spend too much time on, so it has just worked which has made me pretty happy.  If I were looking again, I'd consider a few others.

Thanks Barb. Megan and the awesome list of contributors really make that site, I just hide out behind the scenes. ;)

I've been using Thesis for 2 years and I really like it, but I've heard great things about Genesis and Headway as well.  I'll probably try them out at some point down the road and see which I like best.
