I published a post today about challenging our core beliefs, and how we can also apply this to the PF world. First Gen American had a great idea in that we can use this to generate a series a posts about different PF ideas and how can challenge them, such as saving for retirement versus spending for the moment, using credit versus not using it, etc…

The basic idea is to take an idea that you hold, and play the devil's advocate and viciously attack it from all sides to see if you can learn something new from the process. What do you guys think? I think it could be a great series. Smile

Here's a couple of ways you can approach it:

1) Take any idea you're passionate about, such as paying down debt, and then take the devil's advocate position. Relentlessly attack your own position and see if the other side has a case. Then, post about it!

2) Maybe there's an idea that the PF blogosphere is passionate about, but you have your own reservations about it. For example, many bloggers are vehemently against the idea of carrying any debt at all. Why not challenge this view head on and challenge their core beliefs, and post about it!

You are of course not limited to the above. Feel free to approach this in any way that you prefer. Once you've posted or scheduled a post, let me know about it. I'll schedule a roundup for the 30th of November with everyone's posts in there!

I agree. Let's all mix it up a little. Let's take the comments people deem as financial gospels and shake things up a bit.

This sounds like a lot of fun – I just added Coupons Aren't Worth the Effort to my editorial calendar. It will be interesting to explore and see where the post goes.

I am going to try to write a post about the downsides of budgeting.  I think I might gag a little though as I go along, lol.

@FirstGenAmerican — Thanks for helping to seed this idea in the first place!

@BFS — I updated the post. So, the way it will work is you post on your site, and I will do a roundup of all the posts for Nov. 30.

@MyJourneytoMillions Let me know whenever it's up and I'll link to it in the roundup! IIRC, you've come up with some nice challenge posts (wasn't there one about teachers? ;)), so I'm looking forward to what you come up with!

@justheather Haha, I could see that one. I'm looking forward to it.

I LOVE THIS IDEA. I'm going to confess how I am not budgeting in 2010 and why. I'll let you know when it's up Kevin. Of course, I'll link to the round up. Thank you!

Completely agree. I can't stand the 'save money by recycling your used nappies into compost for the organic garden' type posts. There is a lunatic fringe out there that take frugal living to an extreme.

Check this post out for my 'mix it up' point of view.

Okay, I just did 2 articles:

Don't save for your 401K

Don't save for you're kid's education.

I'll probably also do one on Don't buy a house using a mortgage.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this topic. Thanks Kevin.
